I just installed the Raven Shield CD and updated to patch 1.6. I have Vista 32-bit which hasn't stopped me from playing other old games, even older than this one.

The game opens either in full screen or windowed mode. When it opens in windowed mode everything plays fine (the intro videos, the menus, & the game play) but the screen is too small to play (or it goes off center where you can't see the bottom). There is no option to make this full screen in the Options.

Sometimes the game opens in full screen (as it should). I get through the Ubi intro fine and the introductory "The Year is 1945" video fine. However, after that when it's supposed to go to the menu, the screen turns black & flickers, although I can hear the audio fine. I have to use Ctrl-Alt-Del to stop the program. When I do that I see the following message:

OS: Windows NT 6.0 (Build: 6000)
CPU: GenuineIntel PentiumPro-class processor @ 2394 MHz with 2047MB RAM
Video: NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT (6925)

General protection fault!

History: UGameEngine:Big Grinraw <- UWindowsViewport::Repaint <- UWindowsClient::Tick <- ClientTick <- UGameEngine::Tick <- UpdateWorld <- MainLoop

But I do not see this message when the game starts in windowed mode (but again, the windows mode screen is too small or off-center to play). Also, I'm using Vista 32-bit, not the NT version which it says in the message. Can anybody offer any suggestion or other software fix for this? I'm using 2 monitors with nVidia 8800 GT video card. I own several games & this is the first time I've come across this problem in the set-up.

The power of trial & error: I think I found a quick fix to this problem - not the windowed mode but the full screen where the monitor turns black with some flickering. If you start the game & get the windowed mode, re-start it until you get the full screen mode again. You can just press the space bar to skip the introductory videos. After that, like I said since I could hear the audio I know the menu screen is there, it's just a matter of fooling around with the mouse and/or keyboard to get the video to appear.

After the introductory videos are over & you get to the part where the menu screen should be showing (but in our cases appear black with some flickering), try moving the cursor (by moving your mouse down) to get it to the bottom-most position on the screen. Since the screen is black you won't be able to see the cursor but you can estimate its position. Don't worry about the exact position, it's even ok to overshoot, just approximate. The idea is that you want to get it in the Windows taskbar area (the bar that is always at the bottom of your Windows screen). After you feel it is at the bottom, then press the left mouse button. Press it a few times if nothing happens. Press the "Ctrl" key if still nothing happens. In my case, something finally shows, sometimes it shows the Raven Shield menu screen right away and sometimes I had to first click on the Raven Shield task on the bottom Windows taskbar to get it to appear.

This works and I played fine with full screen 1680X1050 resolution. However, if you choose to Abort Mission & Go back to Re-planning, then the screens screw up again & you'll have to re-start the program. It also seemed to happen right after you complete a mission. Those are the 2 times it seems to be happening. So I'll probably be re-starting the game after I complete each mission.

I know it's going to be a pain but heck I'll take whatever works. That's the problem of getting an older game on a newer computer. If anyone else experiences this and/or finds another fix, please share the wealth. If this was helpful to you, please let me know. I'd like to know if it helped anyone else or only me...

Yep, this happens as a result of the screen resolution too high in combination with AA and AF settings turned up high too. If you disable those enhancements the game runs fine otherwise too high of those settings and the game gets corrupted. Its not just this application that has that issue on high resolutions but other applications too.

not necessarily...
sometimes it is the fact that ur computer cant run the regular 'loop' file...
so to fix this go into ur raven shield folder and find, in ur system folder, a thing called no_Loop... this will run a small log while running the program and keeps it from freaking out on u...
see if it works for u
helped me a ton
...if ur running a dual core system... u might want to also install the dual core optimizer from windows or else it wont play
