Just installed RVS for the first time in a long time, but it will not get past the intro screens. When its done playing the intro with the lightning bolt, the screen blinks rapidly and does nothing else. I cannot get out of the game, except to do a hard reboot.

The same thing happens when I try to skip the intros.

I did a clean install of RVS, then Athena Sword, then Iron Wrath. Installation went fine, but just won't play. Could it be the Iron Wrath expansion causing this?

WinXP Pro SP2
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4200+
2 GB RAM
2x Geforce 7800 GT in SLi mode w/ latest drivers

Hi, Your not alone m8.

My once fully working RVS has now Inherited the EXACT same problem as yours.

The difference between when it was working and now, is that now I'm trying to run it on a new machine I've bulit. Like you I'm trying to run it with Dual Core AMD processor.

I've tried to Launch the game by setting the Affinity to one core but the game still crashes during the logo and I have to reset the machine to restart.

I've tried running all different versions of patches 1.0 through to version 1.6.

but nothing, Can anyone help please.

ok found help under pcgeneral discussion.
fallenblade had same problem, i followed his link to majorgeeks, and downloaded winlauncherxp
and then set up ravenshield to launch under it. you need to find the parameter por the processors, and use processor 1 only.
it worked 4 me fine.

Ok I've sorted it. I tried winlauncherXp with no success,I found it to be really buggy, So do the following.

1) Create a destop shortcut to the "AutoRun.exe" located on the CD Rom.

2) After launching shortcut to autorun from the desktop, the RVS menu will come up. at this point DO NOT Start Game

3) Instead Crtl _Alt_Del to your task manager and find "UbiAutorun.exe" RIGHT click on this and choose the option "Set Affinity..."

4) Now untick ONE of the cores, It doesn't matter which one. Now close task manager and launch the game from the Auto run menu which came up.

5) You have to Set Affinity EVERY time you want to play RVS. But thats because It cant remember. Winlauncher it suppose to do this but even though I set it up it STILL launched with both cores.

Hope this helps,as it works everytime for me.

thanx B.A.F
I didnt even try to set affinity to a single core, as most of the people on the forums had no luck with it.,cant understand why winlauncher
didnt work for you.
the real question is what the he!l is with this bug anyway?
someone needs to patch this bug.
I have lots of games, and this is the only one with a problem with the dual core. wasupwitdat.

They wont bring a patch out for Dual Core because apparently UBI are not giving any support for this game anymore.

Not good after just 3 Yrs. Imagine what would happen to the car industy if they odopted the same attitude.

Not sure whats with WinlauncherXp A window keeps coming up with an error when I try to launch game with it. Or the game dissapears out of the configuration box, and I have to do it all over again. well it is Beta I suppose.

Sli doesnt work or gain you any performance when it does work (Alternate frame rendering)

setup the rvs sli profile to use Single GPU rendering when playing ravenshield

I have had AFR work but it didnt help much with performance as 256 ram is pretty much toppin it off lol..

other then that check the winlauncher pro program it has helped others.

Here's another fix you can try also....and this is working fine for me.. http://www.robpol86.com/Pages/imagecfg.php
madmagician found this link and it works great. The only thing you have to do is have all updates installed before you do this patch or you will have to do it over everytime you patch. Also make sure when you run the command line that you are running from your ravenshield dir.

Hey, i seem to be having similar problems with RVS not running on my new system.
The game starts up, i can go into multiplayer or single player and do menu commands. But when i click start game, or join a server, it loads map for a few seconds and then exits the game. It was giving an error message, but after trying all the mentioned fixes above, it now wont even give me an error report anymore, not that the error report matters coz the link to it doesnt work, ubi have stopped careing.
i have very similar specs to most people above

Specs
AMD X2 Dual Core 4200+
Asus M2N-Sli Delux
2gb 2X1gb DDR2 667mhz Hynix (i think)
Onboard HD Audio
Xpert Vision 7600GT (latest drivers)
LG 16X DVD Burner DVD\CD combo
Western Digital SATA HD, 160gig

Game has worked for years on other systems, and every other game i have on this system runs flawlessly, max resolution all effects turned up. Now this game boots, but wont load into the actual game.
Anyone know of a fix for this ? PLEASE HELP ME OUT!!!!!
i might go and try installing it on my old AMD3000+ machine with a 6600GT
it just sux having to change computers everytime i wanna play a game.

Try downloading and installing the AMD dual core optimizer:

http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/TechnicalResources/...82_871_13118,00.html

There's no reason your system won't run the game, except the game doesn't run properly on AMD dual core processors.

For INTEL Core (2) Duo:

Windows XP Hotfix Patch: KB896256
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/896256

Some further instructions with a few download links for the patch (a forum thread which may or may not disappear in time):

http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=60416

Comments: I was having the same issue as some of you. RVS was locking up after the Ubi/Redstorm intros. It looked like the graphics would flash for a bit and then it would lock up.

After I applied the Windows patch, everything worked great. Performance is awesome (Bootcamped Macbook Pro 2.33 Ghz, 2GB Ram).

Enjoy.

Hey guys,

I have a really old Unreal 1 engine game installed called Rune. When I got my dual-core, I started experiencing issues with it, turns out it didnt like my new processor. Next thing I know, I get the same kind of effect on RvS ! After over a year of trying these Windows patches (more like bubble-gum on a flat tire) and AMD optimizers, someone on the Rune forum found a fix, which I have tested out on RvS, works great ! Anyways here is a link to the post, just follow the instructions and modify for your RvS files and it should work ;-)

well it isn't the cores.... just that the videocards of geforce is not suited for it...

RVS runs on direct X 8... so this is what you can do (for 8000 series this works)

UseHardwareTL=True << set this to False in your Ravenshield.ini

for my 6600 GT it is not working but 8000 series it runs nice

I have the exact same problem of black screen of death after the Red Storm logo. I have to hard reboot.

I do NOT have dual core. (PIV 3ghz) I ran this game just fine on this very same PC 3 years ago. The only difference is i upgraded the onboard graphics card to an ATI Radeon X1300. This video card was quite popular technology around the time RVS came out, so I have no idea why it wouldn't work. I have the newest drivers (catalyst 8.3), nothing seems to be working.

Wow. I don't believe this. The way you fix this is to run the game from the CD's autoplay. LOL!

Just posted this in another related thread, but I came across the same problem when recently reinstalling RvS. About 7/10 times, I'd get stuck with the flickering intro sequence, which often didn't get past the first intro clip.

On the occasions I did get through and into the game, I was unable to move on the training course.

The solution for me (on an nVidia 7800GT on WinXP) was to disable anti-aliasing via the driver configuration. See http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/2231031415/m/3...581025436#7581025436

Hope that helps someone.
