Two years ago, Ubisoft and Arkane Studios brought Dark Messiah to us, which we fell in love with. I, for one, being a huge fan of Fantasy/Medieval RPG games, belive that I liked this game even more than most of the people... Even if the only RPG elements happens in the first chapters and the middle and ending of the game it turns more into a FPS, shoot 'em up game which could had been better worked on... But ANYWAYS, that isn't the reason of why I'm posting this. I've always heard, not only here on these forums but on some other Gaming communities all over the Internet, mainly the fans coming up with things like: "Ubisoft only cares about money! They aren't releasing a new DM!" Well, this is partially true, Ubisoft, like EA and like ALL the rest of the game developer companies, only make the games for money, thats normal, these companies make games not because they are a bored bunch of people who have nothing else better to do so they are like: "Oooo lets make a game!" No. Of course, they make games to make money.
Our Dark Messiah was not the big success of the year for a couple of reasons that we already know and pointed out, although Dark Messiah has really good ideas, it can totally be the evolution of a next RPG game generation, for example. It has very good qualities like the melee combat system, the graphics, the RPG based engine where you can use the kick function to do a endless couple of things, it has a awesome start for a RPG story.
Does anyone remember Jedi Knight I? Yes, JK1! Back to '90 decade, where the JK1 Demo was even bigger than the actual whole DM story itself, this game has great basis, it just needs some adjustments, a bit of creativity and some small things more to turn it on game of the year, lets spose that Ubisoft decides to turn it on the game of the year. Sure as hell DM is a piece of art in some cases, for the people who played it with headphones at night, who didn't shiver when you walked into the Necropolis and the Undead spirit started to talk to you? Who didn't find awesome that part when Xana "revived" Sareth and gave him that Demon form power?
I think we are just being a bit pessimists, (and yeah we have reasons to) but after all, we ARE on the Ubisoft, Dark Messiah: Might and Magic, official forums! If there's some good place to do a undersigned project and point out some factors which can bring this game a new life, that place IS here!
So, Ubisoft wants money? Lets help them to make money, please lets put aside the flames and keep this thread productive, DM was out there for two years now, enough people played it, fell in love with it in the beginning and felt "frustated" like us when they finished it. With that said, I'm asking YOU, who loves DM like the rest of us, to participate on this undersigned project and also point out what would you add/change/maybe remove on the possible next version of the game. Keep it simple, hierarchized and well organized by topics. Thank you.

I would:
- Extend the RPG campaigns, (Shiz, I finished it in only three days.) honestly, I'd turn it into a more RPG game than a shoot 'em up, if I want to shoot some things without a reason I log on Steam and play CounterStrike or go play Jedi Knight 3.
- Reduce the battle scenes and put some more scenes like the ones on the first chapters, I'm not asking to take off all the carnage at all, just asking for RPG primary and Combat secondary. After all, the combat system is already awesome and it doesn't really need much changes.
- More videos to follow the chapters, again more RPG.
- The secret areas should be more secret, more well hidden, again does anyone remember the secret areas of JK? That sure as hell is secret.
- It should let go to the point where we can evolve all our skills and enjoy them for some long chapters, make the enemies stronger if its needed, maybe new enemies?
- I kinda got tired of undeads and killing zombies.. I'd say new enemies! New threats! Actually more than a single threat, once we get rid of a big ass enemy, like Arantir we'd start another story! Yes Im talking about a big ass RPG game, the game of the year.. Dark Messiah II. Wink
- I liked the point that it was kind of open ended, in some way where we have to decide between Xana or Leanna, maybe some more things like that, where we have to decide "which way to go now" and it may reflect on the rest of the game and story.

And finally, I'm adding my sign:
- FuryaN

Just as a side note, I wouldn't turn it in a MMORPG game, that would be a bit hard.. but sure I would love to see it depending on the internet in some way, to never let it die.. Erh, I dunno.

  • The base and regular crashes.
  • The base glitches when loading movies In-Game.
  • I think thats all that it wasn't refered yet.

Hehe
MMORPG will mean Massive "memory can't be read" errors too (ask BlindNero) Too Happy

3/4 players Coop mode will be enough I guess

we only need a .dll to "store" the player skill level and add it up to the NPCs skill level instead of relying on the .qct files only.

An entity needed might be a real-time in-game server browser in order to "travel" from server to server when finishing a map, instead of simply change level

Oh and some good mappers out there, of course..

My suggestions=
Bigger story , respawning enemies , a non-campaign map where enemies randomly spawn, Ability to backtrack through the story, More physics objects ( there where actually quite a bit though) More skills and abilities , especially spells. and a way to make taking up spare weapons worth it, Either through combining objects to make them better, Or currency, or to be able to smash them up for spare metals to use in a forge.
Wieling a one-handed weapon in both arms other then a dagger (which really just feels like one weapon) and removing block for faster strikes would be cool

Oh hell yeah, I sooo want a sequel- Bought this game on launch day- was part of the beta before that and was pretty active in the Multiplayer for a long while after relz. I love the single Player Aspect as well. I did have a couple of gripes- Namely that the game was too short and that there wasn't very much variety in the environments but I would love to return to Ashan Soon. I think Sareth's story is pretty much over unless they wish to make some of the alternate ending's uncannonical, which I wouldn't mind (as long as the Sareth/ Xana takeover ending is the one they choose. I think Xana is so awesome). A prequel or a different storyline altogether would be great though. I am dissapointed that so many people complained about the bugs. I am a fan of all big RPG's like this and I found it a little ironically sad that despite the fact that the expansion to TES IV Oblivion (Love that game soo much) Shivering Isles had almost more game breaking bugs then Dark Messiah did at launch and yet all the reviewers seemed to ignore that but absolutely hounded DM about it's bugs.

Consider it signed- Celedrin

I see that a lot of people are having big hopes for a sequel.
And this is a good thing because hope never dies!
Some of you are asking how will the story be in the sequel because there are 4 different endings.
About the sequel there are a lot of possible stories that can be great and epic!
And a lot of ideas that can be put in the sequel!
But the 4 endings and the lack of ideas are not the problem here!
The problem is just Ubisoft.
So instead of putting just an undersign lets all donate 10 bucks to hire a band of mercenaries to kidnapp Yves Guillemot and force him to make the sequel Big Grin Too Happy
Veryhappy

Im reserving a lil' secret for you all that will be signing and tossing their ideas here, if you like DM, you wont be dissapointed. Im just waiting to see some more considerable replies. Wink)

PLUS, that video in my previous post wasn't enough for you? Maybe an image will help to motivate you? C'mon.. is there anything more beautiful than this?

Uh FuryaN- I get a 404 error when trying to view your links. I hope your little secret is actually something good and not some cheesy ploy to give us false hope (see what you did). Anyways does anyone know how much money they actually made off Dark Messiah- Seems to me that sales were decent despite the slough of bad reviews. I hope they end up making a sequel soon, so I hope Elements sells extremely well (hopefully it wont be plagued by bugs). Heck I would even settle for the new Training level from Elements on the PC version for now- Just so I have something new to look at. A toolkit sure would be nice too.

I LOVED Dark Messiah too and would (if they make one) buy the sequel. I agree with all the points people made, but I reckon The ending cinematic was pretty weak, whichever side you picked. Smile

How about a more improved multiplayer Smile That would be a great idea.

I was thinking make this into a MMOFPS/RPG. Make it like it is FPS. And able to improve on the combat a lot. Such as say IDK an idea would be. You move with the keyboard swing a sword with the mouse. Or at least SOME different attacks depending on what you do with your mouse and keyboard. Have same classes or even expand it instead.

I think a lot of people (like myself) are looking for a mmo that is FPS Medieval style. Always wanted one and Dark Messiah came -_- To my suprise it is a failure....

Not to be mean or anything, but I doubt they really read these forums anymore. I have only *read* like 2 posts from them if it even WAS THEM, in the past 6 months or over -_-

They made a longer DM all right with added gameplay on the 360 I bet they are happy with that eh? I love getting on the demo and talking to the players on there. NO ONE has even heard of it for PC wtf? Maybe they should have TRYED to advertise it? At least say hey play it on the PC Smile

Alwell what do I know eh?

The best multiplayer would be one that has the graphics, physics, the spell sistem and the combat sistem from the singleplayer. That's all they must do!O...and made by Arkane!

No...,to turn it to an MMO wouldn't be the best ideea.I mean it will just ruin the game.
If they turn this into an MMO they will not have any time to make the singleplayer right,O...and we wouldnt have a singleplayer.
And is the singleplayer that makes Dark Messiah so great, not the mp.I already said what they need to the mp.

As I allready said to turn it to an MMO means to ruin it.

I want the sequel to be a LOT more RPG style, more choices to be made in the game, but I still want the carnage to stay... And, no, I absolutely don't want it to become another MMO... Perhaps a little more open-ending wouldn't hurt?

the amount of rpg elements was totally right for the mp... more skills and maybe different weapons to choose (like in bf2- better in some aspects but worse in others)

most important though is a good support and balancing... there are still bugs that were already in the demo...

for the sp there is no much to change... it should be longer in case we get a sequel...

More humanoid enemies (they arethe most entertainig to kill)
More spells
Better cutscenes
Better story
More weapons
Enemies can carry different weapons (ex, black guard with mace)
THere are only double daggers, but there should be single daggers before that.
And a reduction with the bug with ropes that make you go trough the wall...

as much as i like to hate on multiplayer for its flaws, its actually probably the best medieval/fantasy game of its type

played PVK? thats alright actually (great fun), but the combat rewards the blocker

age of chivarly, thats pretty pov, sorry

MP is pretty good actually. i miss it

i'd like a sequel that they will actually support, fix bugs, expand on the potential of the game

anyways try age of conan, mmo coming up, its ment to have really good combat...
