I have a Vista Ultimate with a 128 mb video-card, 2 GB RAM, AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4000+ 2.1 Ghz and i'd like to know if i'm able to run Dark Messiah without framerate issues or other problems. I can run Left 4 Dead, Team Fortress, Neverwinter Nights 2 (with low graphs) without problems. Thank you.

I have a q6600, nvidia 260 216 core, 9800 running physx, 4 gigs of ddr3 and this game still runs like as*. This is a really old game, yet still keeps all of its bugs intact.

Btw, the common problem that is still not fixed is that you will notice ever dropping fps until the game is unplayable.

I don't understand a lot about computer configurations. It seems that your PC is better and you said the game doesn't work properly. But like, do i need better configs to play Dark Messiah?I play left 4 dead, team fortress 2 and even neverwinter nights 2 in low resolution. Is Dark Messiah even heavier than those games?

DM is not heavier than modern games, it's a very badly coded game, so you don't know if you'll have issues until you don't try it...

939 and AM2 AMD cpus are somewhat prone to errors with DM so I'd prefer Intel cpus, but you can never know...

You MUST have your PC "healty" in order to play DM enjoying all it's features.
After all it's an old game which did meet bad coders (games using Source engine are better supported when whitin the Steam community) and a worse publisher (promises, promises...)

If you're looking for an old fantasy game search for Severance: Blade of Darkness it has some bug here and there, less than DM if you're unlucky with your PC config though.
At least it won't bother you with "update your (insert card here)" stuff

No problem on Vista provided of course your PC is within the system requirements and in optimal condition, see Dark Messiah Installation and Troubleshooting Instructions.

Slowdown on Steam is not caused by the game; suspect your Steam installation or otherwise your pc-configuration, the dvd version doesn't slow down either and it was never a bug to begin with.

This is why so many people had problems with it and continue to. Exact same problem regardless of the configuration?

Let me ask you has one of your suggestions made to anyone here about the slowdown issue resulted in a fixed problem? NO!

So you obviously do not know what is causing the issue. Except the fact that when the developers release updates they mentioned a "memory leak" issue. Doesn't this suggest that they possibly never fixed it?

BTW, I have 170 games on my computer and all work fine except this one. I have made a point of making sure they all do and hopefully I will get this one fixed as well.

Here's a suggestion:
1. if Securom copyprotection notices even a trace of pirate copy or disk copying / emulating / cloning software it will try to ruin attempts to run the game.
2. Totally different option: sometimes a bug occurred in Steam making the game slowdown after some period of gameplay. Solution was to completely uninstall Steam (including from registry), install the latest version, restore games.

Other causes can't be ruled out.

Both options, and more, are mentioned in the instructions thread. You should read it sometime. Both dvd and Steam version run absolutely fine, during endless playtime, on my 5 tested different PC's (XP, Vista 32/64), besides those of millions of other users, since 2006 till today.

How about with the latest nvidia drivers? Maybe the new drivers are causing a memory leak. You said that the 177.41's work ok in your troubleshooting guide, but have you tested on any newer drivers? If so, which ones. I have thought about rolling back to the 177.41's but they are a bit old now. I have tried the last three newest drivers, with the latest beta included. No dice on any of them.

Rolled back drivers to the 178.24. No luck. This game is horribly flawed. Is there anyway to install an earlier version on steam? Or, do they auto install the latest version? I've heard people having luck with an earlier version.

@Nero
sorry mate, but you can't say it's not a bug
You can't say to install a Steam release NOT existing at the time DM was launched either,
'cause no Steam (nor ATI and nVidia either) release notes talk about DM among their fixed issues.

This IS a game bug 'cause the game was not tested properly among different PC configs.
The annoying bug with Vista is another evidence of bad coding.

Now, I don't know whether Arkane couldn't fix the issues or whether UBI did inhibit Arkane from fix the game, but those issues from the first post on this forum by Marco-Arkane remain the same even after years of upgradings.

edit:
maybe those guys with "a trace of pirate copy or disk copying / emulating / cloning software"
were not so wrong...

I'll fire it up on my other system and see if it works. If not then it will obviously be a game issue. As I run ddr2, ati 3870, and intel mobo, and q6600.

The 177.41's see no change. I think you are full of sh*t nero, arkane is a horrible developer. The sad part is that they are planning on creating another game. I wont be buying it. How the hell are they still in business?

Btw did you even try the heapsize launch option? i directed you to the instructions thread, did you even see "Possible Errors" item =49=?

I've seen your type ofter here. Fails to get it working but doesn't come on the forum for help, but only to bash and trash, and insult a helpful co-member.

Yup, tried the heapsize idea. No resolve. I am currently trying the "reinstall steam" idea. I have my fingers crossed. This idea is the only one that I have seen multiple people become successful with. Thing is, I have only had steam on my system for a couple weeks. When I remembered that I had half life 2.

Anyway, I'll try it. Sorry for the insults, I am getting a bit ****ed at this game.

It's a pity that such an intriguing game (wise also the idea to use the excellent Valve's 3D engine) has so much unfixed bugs.
I still blame the fact that this game also crashes senseless when you quit on Vista.
The support from Arkane was very very poor. A pity.
