Ok, got it. Smile

Copy your Bin and Platform subfolders of the mmdarkmessiah directory into your server folder, say "yes to all" when asked if you want to overwrite. After that, copy the Bin and Platform folders in the server directory, and paste them back in the mmdarkmessiah subfolder saying yes to overwriting again. Finally copy um.dll from mmdarkmessiah to your server folder, and it'll work. Smile

I would just add the following:

Before running hldsupdatetool for the first time, run it without any parameters so that it updates itself.

Also, it's a good check to see if you have downloaded a corrupted version of the program. I downloaded it 3 times and got a truncated version of the file twice. I know others have had the same problem. It should be over a meg in size.

Hey everyone, when I try to launch the server via the console, it crashes out on me.

I can successfully launch a server via the GUI, however when trying via the commandline, I get an error similar to

However I don't get the null error, it detects the DarkMessiah game dll, and errors after that.

Note that the map is L_MP4 now as well.

I followed the instructions exactly, and as I mentioned, GUI works fine to start the server, console does not.

Anyone have any ideas? I would have posted my screenshot of the exact error, but it automatically closes out on me after it crashes.

If someone can help me set this up, I'm almost ready to begin offering dedicated US servers for Dark Messiah.

I don't think the vanilla Source dedicated server program is going to allow us to host L_MP4 without some persuasion, it gives the same error you were given for trying to load the E3 demo or custom maps without tinkering with the executable. We're probably going to need the legitimate Kuju dedicated server file for that, although as I understand it Mana is having difficulties with that since the latest patch too. This method still works with L_MP2 without issue though.

Without the specific error message I can't help you much, although my guess is that you tried to load the map via a config file instead of manually in the console or via the shortcut, don't do that, it doesn't like that. Gets stuck in an error loop.

New game modes, everything new... valve one craps at this new stuff (I don't think the valve srcds.exe has even seen 5 game modes for one game yet... 2 for HL2DM was it's max...)

ive got it up and running now. thanks for the great guide.

ive found the game to be very laggy but only in some areas, in addition im getting these errors in my console when starting up, any thoughts whats causing them?

in addition, whenever someone tries to join they are getting an error shown in the console: "maps/L_MP2.bsp size exceeds net_maxfilesize limit (16 MB)" which is the default client side setting but why are they getting it at all if they already have the map?

That's because you have the wrong version... L_MP2 got removed in the new update. You should just delete this (or back it up if you wish) and redo it all for the new update.

It's not, Mana. It gave those exact same error messages when it worked too, nothing to worry about, it worked regardless. Wink

Read his post. Look at the screenshot (map name) and then read my post.

He does indeed have the wrong version of the beta if he is trying to run L_MP2 instead of L_MP4... (New beta doesn't even load L_MP2 of the bat).

I did, and it's working fine in his screenshot. His server is working AND running L_MP2 in that screenshot, those errors regarding materials displayed BEFORE the patch too. They're materials that have always been missing during the open beta and they do not affect the ability to run a server at all.

If someone tried connecting to his IP address it would be a perfectly functioning multiplayer server, whether or not it broadcasts to the find server list is another matter.

I didn't say a word about the errors, I see a crapload of them everytime I start the server...

No it wouldn't... He is running L_MP2 the current beta is L_MP4, try joining his L_MP2 server and playing with the current beta... (that does not have the L_MP2 map).

So as I was saying (for the third time now) he has the wrong version, so if he wants to make a server that people can actually join:

Hey, i tried to do what you said but when i went to run the server it ran the first 3 lines fine:

Console initialized.
Attempted to create unknown entity type event_queue_saveload_proxy!
Game .dll load for "Might and Magic Multiplayer"

and thats it, it just stops, the only problem i had with your directions was "in order for it to broadcast to the "find servers" list it needs to be showing the 192.168.1.1/192.168.0.1 IP address in the dedicated server program", i don't know where to find the dedicated server program to put the ip address in?
Could you please help, thanks.

You're RUNNING the dedicated server program. That line is only relevant to you if your router is using one of those two addresses, you can use others it just needs to be static and not assigned by DHCP, after that you either need to disable any conflicting network devices or add the following line to your server.cfg:

ip xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx

Replacing the X's with your router's address.

Sorry Karta, your issue seems to be with the HLDS update tool in the download phase, seems the file it's getting stuck at is actually getting corrupted. Not much I can do to help you, but you could try deleting dm_lockdown.bsp and letting it redownload. That might fix it.

OK I added the ip line to my server cfg, it comes up with more but i dont know how to post images in my reply, if someone could tell me ill edit this and show you what it says.
