I can honestly say that Dark Messiah of Might and Magic is one of THE best FPS games i have ever played, not a FPS has impressed me this much since Half-Life did. I never even heard of Might & Magic before and to be honest this game hasn't sparked any interest in it with the very cheesey and bad storyline lol, but it's all about the gameplay....

I've had soo much fun playing through the Single Player levels which were sooo well made and soo much fun finding different ways to kill enemies too. Whats also great is the game isn't too long where you feel like your getting bored of the combat and isn't too short where you feel cheated. Was such a nice change of pace going from pick up a gun when you find it and shoot people to Melee/magic interactive combat where you have some customiseable skills.

I don't know what people were talking about in the reviews really because it sounded like they expected Elder Scrolls Might and Magic rather than a FPS. Also i loved the multiplayer and i still play it alot like i do Coutner Strike and the only thing i'd change about it is the running speeds because a warrior runs faster than a archer which makes no sense to me lol.

Thank you for this wonderful game, it was well worth the purchase. Oh and btw i've had no crashes and no bugs or problems what so ever so people who complain about tech issues in reviews i'm not sure what they're on lol.

earlier mightmagic parts have nothing in common with dark messiah.. they are full rpgs with a quite nice backgroundstory

yes that was a problem dm suffered from right the beggining and it's pretty sure that this has affected reviews
on the other hand it is to say that earlier might&magic parts have an open world... so many thought it's in the name Wink

*sigh* we had this before... the answer is balancing... a concept that seems to be pretty strange to many people even though it's the most important thing in online games- it is in fact more important than logic (even though you could find explanations for it)
you can kill every class with every other (even though some classes have bigger problems with killing some than others but that's not my point... dm is by no means perfectly balanced) and archer is already the most effective class at stopping warriors

and @topic title: everyone knows (there were serveral topics like that before) now it's ubisofts decision
my guess would be: dm 2 comes if elements sells good- it will come for console first and later be portetd to pc (again if it sells good enough) (still just a guess!)

I think mages kill warriors quicker than archers. Also if a warrior DOES get close to an archer. They are basically well.... done for. Just the fact that warriors can knock about every classes strong points. Examples are the fireball/arrow draw/poison bombs etc etc.

well... the only annoying bug I get is that when I try to enter the place on the orc "village" the place with the poison bow, when I use the rope bow to climb I sometimes go trough the wall :s

It looks like Ubi are releasing a Dark messiah clone already, with near enough exactly the same features (throw people off cliffs etc). This one has obviously flown under the radar as it's released in a couple of months but there are very few forum entries as of yet.....

From that little video i see that's not a FPS so you can hardly call it a clone. Bodyphysics (one of the many very strong points of DM) is unnatural, those warriors jump like flees. It'll stay under my radar.

I so agree.

Personally, I loved the rope bow and making your own way through levels. The tunnel and well with the spiders and their shadows preceding them on the walls. Extremely eerie.
And the last part in the catacombs. Very conanesque.

Its not a multiplayer deathmatch type game at all.
Its really about singleplayer exploring and admiring the view.
So....
If anyone gets them to release a SP SDK (see singleplayer SDK thread) I solemly swear to produce some splendid and worthwile mods.
I have the time and the skills.

They probably didn't make enough money on the game last year because people found out the following about Dark Messiah through reviews or their own frustrated experiences :

A. Too short for 60 plus dollars.. Angry Blue Guy
B. Full of bugs. Smash

All they are doing guys is repackaging the same game with only 3 additional hours of single-palyer content. Woooowwwww

I've got a bridge to sell you too.
Your attention is probably better spent elsewhere on games like Mass Effect and The Witcher

Thumbs Up thanks for the tip
kewl, I'll check em out.
Its just that their "lead developer" posted a messages telling they would bring it out.
I'll have to send him a letter, snail mail.
By the looks of it he got fired. Oops

Well, thats all very well.
The dark one himself working on part2, I can imagine that being stuck there and all.
I would prefer a SDK however.

Agreed. Some rather nasty bugs/glitches notwithstanding, I had an absolute ball playing this game.

I would most definitely purchase a sequel.

Ha salmoncat, purchasing a sequel. So I would too. I would however still prefer making some wickid levels with a SDK.

These glitches everybody is talking about. I didn't find one, at least, not counting the getting stuck in the wall when using the ropebow. But that was sufficiently compensated by the fun I had with it. And perhaps the not appearing of the giant spider for the second time, wich I thought was a blessing. bow wich I only read about after finishing the game (what a second time, are they insane =)

Anyways nice to hear someone had the same ball I did.

Regards,

Machiel

Wow. This is astounding. You've never heard of Might and Magic? Not even Heroes? Bad first thing to say on the internet, my friend. Maybe you should look around the internet/electronics store sometime, instead of staring at your steam browser with blinders on.

You describe a videogame as if you were a 12 year old girl talking about a boy.

Have you ever heard of an RPG? I wouldn't be surprised if you haven't considering your first statement.

Maybe if you thought about what you're going to say before you said it, things would make more sense. Imagine you are a warrior with a sword and shield. Your opponent is an archer with a bow that fires from around 20 meters. Your only option: Charge him. His only option: shoot you from any range. If he runs faster than you, what exactly do you plan to do? He just runs out of your range indefinitely and shoots you from afar. Mull that around in the ol' noggin.

You do not cease to amaze me. Either you've cleverly omitted the obvious and great amount of bugs, are being paid by Arkane, or are just very lucky. This game was not ready for release. I could've sworn I was playing a beta. It crashes non stop, no measure of performance tweaking or driver updating or pretty much anything will help. Simply put: the game is fun, but trying to play it is the worst form of torture imaginable.

You, my friend, are an idiot.

As for Arkane, good job; You've created one of the biggest piles of **** ever to enter my hard drive. And I've seen a lot. I saw in one of your posts by a developer that your team didn't help develop the multiplayer, and thus can't help. This is the explanation to my conundrum of why the multiplayer rocks so hard, and the single player is such a worthless pile of deteriorated content. I'll never purchase anything else from Arkane Development, and I will discourage my friends from doing so as well. Also, your tech support and so-called "patches" are worthless. I'm done.

An idiot and a twelve year old girl?
Well, it takes one to know one. In this case that would add up to you beeing a half...

At least they(including myself makes we) had there money's worth and a good time and you are still not happy and complaining.

Not all games are about realism as in, "just as it was in Kandahar" but about imagination and good athmosphere.

With me it didn't crash once.

Now who's the idiot?

Childish insults devoid of logic don't mean anything to me.

I am not calling them an idiot for being happy with their purchase, I am calling them an idiot for: 1. Being grammatically retarded, and 2. Their blatant statement that suggested that the thousands of people with serious problems making the game unplayable were the ones at fault. I mean, seriously. "Oh and btw i've had no crashes and no bugs or problems what so ever so people who complain about tech issues in reviews i'm not sure what they're on lol." Yeah. The game has no problems, the real problem lies with the people who want to play but can't. Hence, idiot.

I wasn't attacking the game's setup. As I stated before, I love the game (What little of it I could play). What I meant to do was defend those who expected/hoped for a game similar to Elder Scrolls. Not because Elder Scrolls is just so amazing, but because it's a typical RPG that many people like. DM being a different setup is fine, but obviously some people have a problem with others expecting to see a tried and true, fun to play setup.

As I said before, you are very lucky. I have seen thousands of posts, heard thousands of problems and stories, and there are many that cannot play this game the way it was intended because of shoddy development, absolutely zero attention to bugs found after (or before, for that matter) release, and sometimes, admittedly, user errors. However, from the game developer's point of view, why release the game at all if half the customers are going to end up unhappy with their purchase? The standard goal is everyone who buys the game is able to play and enjoy it. Not just some.

Now who's the idiot?
Before, it was the OP. Now, it includes you.

Not the "DM M&M Sucks bigtime because" link.
I felt you flaming your frustrations on happy campers whatever the reason including me.

Bad grammar and blatent blah:
maybe its not all our native language, nor are we all that older or should I say wiser.

The math was probably falty, but is now, I agree to beeing an idiot for various not to be revealed here reasons, closing in on the 0.5.

You = 1 idiot + 1 girl

is now

You = 2 idiots(at least not counting the others) + 1 girl

SO you were better of before

Basicly we are all idiots for spending time looking at flickering screens rays and crystals, whilst playing with our brain.

I would suggest starting a thread : Please release the retail version of DM MM

there I would definately post±
I so agree, how dare they not be contactable or promise but not release a SDK. and so on..

Well, didn't want to get into that, was to easy.
Or perhaps a blatently grammatically challenging anagram.

There´s so much problems in Dark Messiah, the main problem is that it doesn´t work at all if you try to multitask. The game crashes as soon as you go to the desktop with alt-tab or the "windows" key.
Also i would not call Dark Messiah a first person shooter. the game is too hard even for a hard core game like me, Ive walkthrouged a dozen of games.
The combat is too hard, it´s hard to find health potions, and you HAVE to find them otherwise you get stucked, also there is only one single way to walkthrough chapters, if you don´t figure it out you get stucked seriously, this includes it´s hard to find the way to go and keys to open doors. Dark Messiah 2 should be more free and open in several ways and less stucky
