Just finished my Dark Messiah Secrets FAQ:
Hopefully someone will be able to point out the secrets I have missed Smile

@Moderators: Most of the descriptions for the secrets should (together with the map names) be good enough, for a possible text only version, that I could do for this forum. I.e. convert my HTML version to forum UBB code.

Question is though... is there interest in putting something like that up here as a sticky.

Hehe...

Depends very much how you play "shooters". I always played them very thoroughly, meaning, walk every path, and try to look into every corner, etc. Playing the different game endings, as a test, I noted that you can run through the game really quickly. Areas I would have spent hours to look around, can be "run through" in a matter of minutes...

Well anyway, it was fun doing the FAQ, since Secrets - at least for me - significantly up the replay value of a game.

Seems like I have been too successful finding the Dark Messiah secrets, no feedback on anything I must probably have missed so far. Hmmm...

One of the reasons you don't get feedback is that the game is more or less a failure. You look on ebay and people can't even sell it for $20. I got a free copy with a video card and had trouble giving it away for free.

It's another great game that fell short, with either being too short or bug ridden (or played by people that have minor issues with their PC which come thru as major issues with the game). But I beleive that all that and moreis why there is no one in the forums to give you feedabck...

But your guide looks pretty thurough and I've bookmarked it for use when I actually go thru the game to finish it.

I couldn't get this one to work. That blue light is there even when you don't have alertness. I couldn't find it hinting at anything or a place where something could be.

quote:

Map: l02_b2

Info: If you have the skill Alertness, you will notice a blue light blotch on the floor. Stand there and look up.
Loot: A note hints at Bow of Disciple.

Well i just don't read 'lists' like that, because i want to find all secrets myself. I have no idea how many there are but i found a lot, maybe i found them all! Big Grin But i won't check your list, it could stop me trying to find any new ones....

It is a bit faint and right in the middle of the floor when at the bottom of the stairs, after you enter the cellar area (level change from outdoors to indoor)...

I seem to remember not seeing it without the skill...

ForgeBimbo,
for me that just goes to show that the masses have no taste... I really loved the game. But then again I did not buy and play it when it was released. After I heard about some issues in the game I waited until it was cheaper, and some patches were out. Thus I was able to miss out on many problems those "I have to have the game the second its out" folks had. Oh well...

BlindNero,
I was guessing something like that... I usually don't read secret lists, until I had a good look myself... only then to find the last few I missed I search the internet.

Great game? As long as it worked for 'you'. My brother got as far as chpt 8 and found out that it was almost over and never bothered to finish it, having felt cheated that there wasn't more.

I was able to play it, about halfway thru, somewhat randomly on my old PC and just haven't bothered to play it thru on my new rig. It runs great, but I'm also aflicted with the "I almost don't want to play because I'll feel cheated in its shortness"...

Sorry, I don't want to make any assumptions, but anyone who uses such a lame excuse not to finish a game, just deserves what he gets.

It took me about 30 hours to finish the game, and I did look for secrets. I have the strong feeling some folks should learn to actually enjoy what the get, and not whine about any small detail they do not like - that only frustrates. Learn to play games slow, and actually start enjoying the beautiful maps... don't run through the game like crazed, overlooking every thing...

I just don't understand folks like your brother.

Maybe he should learn to buy games when they get to the bargain bin... and wait out some patches in the future. I have played games for 25 years now, and no longer get them right off the shelf. Saves money, and bug frustration.

If folks have trouble playing the game because it does not run... now that is a very good and very legit reason to be really pissed off. I have 6 years old hardware and for me it runs well enough... I no longer play MP though, those maps play really slow - FPS-wise.

Again don't get me wrong... but folks really need to start putting things into perspective. If gaming is so frustrating, quit it... I quit MP gaming for that reason.

How did he find that out??? Ahh.. a walkthrough i guess.. the quickest way to boredom. Guys: this game has a hardcore mode, not for nothing. And try out the various strategies, all found out by yourself of course!

Actually my brother refuses to use walkthrus, he called me up to look up something that he couldn't figure out, because I don't care about spoilers. In conversation I told him how many chapters there were.

Not twins, but there are a very few things we see eye to eye on....

Point being that the 'dollar' I spent should give me the value of a dollar. Yes the game is pretty and has some really cool stuff, but the fact that you had to put effort into getting 30 hours out of the game says something about many games now a days. The single player aspect is more and more getting short changed, much like Prey. Good game but too short. It used to be that you could expect a minumum of 40 hours play time in a single player FPS. Now we are supposed to be happy with 12-15?

It's getting that I'd rather spend my $50 on games like Guild Wars or Battlefield 2142 where at least I might log 100's of not 1000's of hours. Yes apples and oranges, but the original retail price is the same.

And it's not frustrating, it's simply a let down.

We both enjoyed the game but it just should have been longer...and knowing that I only had 2 or 3 or 5 hours of gameplay left, left me wanting to wait ti finish it once I was really motivated so that I could get the optimum 'high' from finishing it. Rather than accidentially finishing it because I had some spare time and then going "WTF? That was it?"

Do you get where I'm coming from?

How can you measure your appreciation in 'hours of first gameplay' (and estimated because you never even finished it)? That's just superficial appreciation...

Measured in time i must have spent 6 weeks on this game already, replaying for the 9th time, everytime was different.

Um okay...I lose? Trying to 'discuss' anything with you is pointless, as you can see no other path but the one you are on.

"Game works fine for me, so it must be user error."

"I've played thru the game 9 times, and the fact that you haven't means you are a fool."

"You have an opinion other than UBI/ARKANE is the greatest game maker ever? You are simply wrong."

I'm glad things have worked out so well for you and that you are blindly happy. But I guess it fits, as Nero was blind with insanity whilst Rome burned to the ground, so to do you seem to be...
