Well from the other hand i disagree

I do not care so much about Multiplayer in RPG games

true RPGs are all about true Single player experience and less about multiplayer

But i guess the problem with Dark Messiah is that it is not going to be a true RPG...
it's going more like to be a first person Hack and slash...

If i wanted a RPG with Multiplayer inside i would buy World of Warcraft or something lame like that just like the rest of the kids and the multiplayer fans of the world

Yea... if you wanted an RPG with multiplayer. That's a Massive Multiplayer Online Roleplaying Game. This is an action game. Then an RPG. You are, basically, saying that you don't like this genre.

The developers are trying to make DM have a rich combat system so that it isn't just a hack n' slash. They are striving for realism; where you don't pick a skill and watch your avatar perform it. You learn the skill as you advance in levels, and then you, the player, master that skill with your own prowess. The whole system that they talk about in the interviews is the "aquired" abilities (the stuff you earn in the game) working hand-in-hand with your "inate" abilities (the stuff that you, as the player, bring to the table).

You don't know what type of game this is, because this type of game hasn't really been done before. At least, not well.

No, you don't know what kind of game this is. And secondly I didn't say I only wanted multiplayer.
This is not just a RPG, this is an Action/RPG a là Counter-Strike style, so multiplayer is important. If you don't know, CS is maybe the most played game over LAN. So of course i'm excitedabout the multiplayer aspects in DMoMM.

?? I wasn't even responding to your post. And from what you wrote, if you are responding to mine, it looks like you didn't even read what I wrote because I'm not saying anything contrary to you.

And, yea, it does run on the same engine as CS Source, but I don't think it's going to be terribly similar, since it's focused on melee. In CS there are very little RPG components (unless you play the RPG mod) but those are quite paper-thin. Otherwise, it will probably have a following similar to CS Source with servers generated in the same way.

Annnd I'm really excited about the multiplayer too!!

That was for the post by vasot, who I was quoting. I was actually even repeating what he had typed, to make a point. He was getting his genres confused. You obviously aren't. Don't start jumpin' down my throat when comments aren't directed at you. I don't even know why you would think I'm arguing with you. Sure, I'm responding to your post indirectly, but I'm really just supporting the idea that I think the game will be fun multiplayer.

Seriously, are you reading my posts, or just looking at key words and jumping to conclusions?

Well it's starting to get a wee bit personal now. I don't mind the discussions, just don't let it evolve into personal attacks Wink

I have no clue what just happened, but guys if you think the game is stupid don't buy it, but there is no need to create needless arguments, (unless, of course, you are as evil as Dergos. I'm referring to the incidents in the Tavern.)

I was getting kinda angry that Secret didn't understand, but I'll try and keep my subtle sarcasm out of my posts from now on, since no one can see the facial expressions I'm making while I'm typing them. I guess that makes sense...

And, pom, we both are excited for the game and just arguing over something else..

Damn straght. System Shock 2 is on my short list of all time greatest games. In case you didnt know, the System Shock team is back in action, working on a new title in the spirit of System Shock, called "Bioshock!"! It will be years before we see it, but its good to know its coming!

Maybe.

I don't understand, why are you still here? Do you actually think that by repeating your useless nagging is going to make them completely scrap everything they've built so far and restart their work on a 16 bit RPG? Just leave already. The same goes for all the trolls, they are not going to change the game to your liking. If you don't like the ideas set down so far, leave.
I love classic RPGs too, but there's enough of them out there, go replay them if they're so good. For once I'd like to see a game where it actually immerses the player into the world in a first person view. I want to be able to get in my enemy's face, I want to be able to knock his sword out of his hand, and I want to stab a cyclops in the eye. I do not want to order my avatar to "attack this enemy" and watch the dice roll to see if I am successfull. I say kudos to them for trying something new.

The bottom line is that they are a business and they have every right to do what it takes to get them money. If you don't like it, that's a shame.

Amen!

I also can't wait for Bioshock. My favorite adventure/roleplaying games were Thief, Arx Fatalis, and System Shock 2, and the fact that we're getting their "spiritual successors" makes me very happy, unlike the clowns in this thread who want the developers to revert to, as Mightnmagic so aptly put it, sixteen bit. I mean, yes, I enjoyed Zork immensely, but I don't go around whining that games should still be text based!
