Well, I bought this game on Sunday, and I was unhappy that I had to wait ages for it to update Frown but managed to get it to play when it was at 95% done just before school, then when I get home I try to play it and it goes black as if its loading, and xfire recognizes it for a second then BAM back to the desktop in an unhappy fashion.

So then I try again and again Frown my specs are

8800GTS 320mb
4gb ddr2 ram (My comp only recognizes 3.2gb though)
AMD AM2 Dualcore 6000 Processor (3ghz)

So my comp can run it extravagantly but epicly fails with starting up. Is there any easy fix? I have installed 1.02 patch when it was like 80% done but thats it (even though I probably didn't have to) could it be the patch? and I would have to uninstall and re download all the updates again? Frown or is it a common problem? The reason I havn't searched for it is because I don't know what to search for so...buggered if I know lol.

So is there any fix to it? thanks

a bit confused here. Did you start the game while it was installing the update?

Is it installed in Steam?

Yes, it's all updating with steam. Well, I bought the game installed it etc, then it started to update (i installed patch 1.02 while it was updating in hope that i could play while it was updating) and I let it run over night, when I woke up in the morning before school it was at 95% and I double clicked the icon in steam, and it launched, no problems.

Then after school when it was completed I tried it again, but it didn't work, it just went black, then crashed to the desktop. So now it doesn't work.

got it to work Big Grin jsut needed to do this
Steam version Dark Messiah singleplayer: right-click on the Steam-created DMoMM-singleplayer shortcut on desktop > Properties. In the "Target" box, after the last letter, hit spacebar once, then add the parameter:
-dxlevel 90

...Steam.exe -applaunch 2100 -dxlevel 90


BUT when i first start the game, I get a really really really good framerate, but then 5-10 minutes into the game it gets as low as 10 :/ not to good, any help? Ok, well it seems that when ever theres more than about 3 enemy's/civilians on screen I get about 15 fps, on my monster machine Frown even when I set everything on low Frown

Hi Mark. Should have taken the time to FULLY read the DARK MESSIAH Installation and Troubleshooting Instructions and find that:

Many people already had Steam installed for a longer time before they bought and installed Dark Messiah. Something in the older version seems to be the cause for this issue.

Many users with GF8800/8600 series, 7900GS, 7800GS, 6800 and 6600GT card reported they suffered this. But not me, with my GF 7800GT, no matter which drivers...
I uninstalled the 'DVD/updated through Steam' version, downloaded the 100% Steam version, to test out if i get the same "nVidia/Steam problem"



Tested for an hour, NO slowdowns or fps drops. Just excellent performance, same as the other version. And this is with the 165.01 beta. Might as well test again with previous drivers, but i am confident the result will be the same.
So it couldn't be the nVidia drivers nor the game files, but some Steam file or registry value in older versions of Steam. And so it seems to be...

So, do this:

-backup your game(s) using the Steam backup function
-uninstall Steam and manually delete remaining files and folders
-defragment your hdd(s)
-clean your registry from Steam
-Use CCleaner to get rid of the last crumbs you may have missed
-reinstall the current version of Steam (redownload from Valve: http://www.steampowered.com/v/index.php?area=getsteamnow) <-- if you get an Error page, just click on "GET STEAM NOW" at the top.
-restore your game(s).

...but this doesn't necessarily affect you, for myself i can say that on my GF7800GT machine i don't have that issue at all.
Again: try the 100% fresh reinstall of Steam.

Also, recent thread on page 1: (GF) 8800 slowdown is "Problem of complex nature"

Sorry for the double post, but it starts off at 100fps and goes down to 10 in a matter of 30 seconds. This is really frustrating, I payed $50 Australian for it but can't play, this is so annoying. It's been ages, no fix?

Mark: you paid for your nVidia card and get those nVidia issues.
You paid for your AMD processor, luckily there is a AMD dual core patch, try it. See DARK MESSIAH Installation and Troubleshooting Instructions [POST 6] item =36=.

You updated through Steam AND did something weird:

I suggested you to reinstall Steam. Did you?
If you have the DVD version, install it outside Steam and manually patch it.
If you have bought the Steam version, wait till it is 100% downloaded, verify integrity and keep the ubisoft patches away!
