Well I just got a bunch of questions for a survey e-mailed to me. Most of them were about if I liked Dark Messiah and on things they can improve, etc... Anyways, one question was "Would you be interested in a sequel?". I knew that this was the reason of the survey, but man... hopefully this goes through! If Dark Messiah got pushed back just a month to polish those technical glitches, I bet it would've gotten AAA off of review sites. One can hope, hopefully an Xbox360 port too Big Grin.

Dark Messiah was good, but not great.

Dark Messiah's graphics, sound, and music were BEAUTIFUL !

However, the sequel should improve in the following areas :

1- Create a non-linear game that allows you to explore and complete side quests.
( Ex. Elder Scrolls IV : Oblivion )

Dark Messiah was TOO SHORT for my money !

2- Give the player more options- missions, joining groups, character customization, etc.

3- Technical performance : Dark Messiah took too long to load and would freeze up constantly.

Do not create a character like leanne.

She made the game look less real.

How can someone scantily clad with NO ARMOR survive being hit with all those arrows !

The character also had a tendency to continously walk into walls.

Well, since I haven't registered, and in case anyone from Ubisoft reads this: Yes, I would be interested in a sequel Thumbs Up

DM was/is great fun, but after completing the game 4 times, I just had a loong break from it, I guess I need some new content.. Although a less linear etc game would be great, turning the game into a sort of Oblivion isn't really what I would want the devs to concentrate on. I would rather have them develop even further all the things that made DM cool to begin with, like deep melee combat, cool spells and the use of physics..

I came to look here because I'm wondering if there is going to be a sequel. And there I see the topic about it !

I'm in the final chapter now. I've bought this game on the day it came out, but the save games were, in an odd occurance, deleted. Just started over again. On Sunday I began.

I agree on points 1 and 2. But for comparison: DM is what? 7 GB big? Oblivion is "just" 4,5 or so. If not smaller. Just to point out this game is easily 1.5x bigger than Oblivion. Nevertheless it's way more exciting. You get to kill big beasts, there is a cool fighting system, and not some boring "enemy always attacks and hit you - you hit back and attack the same way over and over again". That made me eat Oblivion's disk.

In DM there are certain things you can do and leave. Mainly the big beast killing, saving Leanna or not and cleansing yourself of demon stuff are a few that come in mind. It seems that the ending is different whether you do certain things like that or not.

I don't know but I think Leanna died fairly quickly. Everytime I didn't pay attention on her, and me living it out on the enemies, she appeared to be dead after my rage - and it wasn't me who struck her !

In a possible sequel, I'd like to see chapter selection - if the save games get deled because of a bug !

Perhaps throw in other creatures as well. We've been fighting Stronghold and Necropolis creatures. This is a first person game about Heroes of Might and Magic, no? Throw in the Dungeon, Sylvan, Dwarf, Fortress, Academy, Inferno and the rest of the Necropolis and Stronghold creatures for us to fight!

Would certainly be interesting.

As of now, I haven't got a feeling that DM is something being part of Might and Magic. More as a separate 'world'. Certain things, like Cyclopses, look very different than in the turn based game.

I hope that helps the crew.

Cheers,
-Q

I understand what you're saying, but her character looked too artificial in every fight scene she was involved in; walkin into walls and wearing no armor.

If you like cartoons or cartoonish-looking games, then I would suggest something like Heroes of Might and Magic V or Diablo.

This is Dark Messiah. Some people prefer a more realistic-looking environment. It's the main reason why I started playing RPGs again.

That girl was like a damn magnet (another reason I didn't like her that much)... I saw her get hit in all kinds of places and didn't want her to be anywhere near me. Just wait behind this rock while I pray for your safety and deal with these orcs... 8(

I just wanto say I do not want this turning into Oblivion, what is the use in 2 games out there that are exactly the same? Bethesda are working on a whole new expansion for Oblivion and I also heard they will be part of Fallout 3. Oblivion wasnt as good as dark messiah in combat but im sure Bethesda will work something out eventually to get it to be just as fun in combat.

I Would rather Arkane stuck to the linear gameplay type as it offers a lot more work and detail to be put into the entire game. Also think of the amount of bugs on release for a "small" game and think of how many they would have to fix in a world as big as Oblivions.

However I would like if they put in more "choice of path" directions that can give you a bit of freedom and offer different outcomes. Also would like to see cash and merchants, similar to resident evil 3 there could be special caves or hidden areas where the merchants lie and the further in the game the more things you can buy. Finishing the game allows you to unlock new weapons so you play through again and again unlocking more weapons.

Oblivion did have some very strong character development elements. It doesn't make much sense that you can rush in headlong and then reward yourself with sneaking skills. Or sneak a bunch then reward yourself with magic. Or cast some spells and then reward yourself with melee skills....

It's combat was horrid though.

Just think Dark Messiah with ground instead of corridors. You could still have the goal you need to accomplish, but... why not put some mystical gem in a mansion on the outside of town and you get to do your own "Raid on menelags mansion". You could be forced to make choices depending on how you want to accomplish your mission. Do you want to spring a surprise raid with a contingent of hired swords (warrior path)? Use you the mystical hands of your loyal mages (mage path)? Bribe the servants for information about your goal, smuggling you in, alternate entrances, perhaps about leaving side doors unlocked (Assassin/Thief Path)?

You make your choice(s) and then you play it out. Of course you ought to be able to rush in like a crazed warrior or mighty mage and do it all yourself leaving a bunch of devastation behind you as well, but adding those other touches would really make for some replayability. And make me have to pick the damn locks myself while time goes by.

This could have many applications... Get the Magic Gem, Kill the Guy, Save the Girl, Shut Down the Magic Portal To Deadsville...

Doesn't even have to only be mansions on the outside of town, why not an ambush on some travelling caravan? a hidden meeting on the rooftops? In the forest? In the mountains? etc...

See what I'm getting at here?

I bought Dark Messiah becouse it has multiplayer and combat system where you can cut body parts off. I was little bit disappointed that you can't cut heads off in multiplayer.

I don't want another Oblivion. Combat isn't so bad in Oblivion, it is better than in many other RPGs, though it doesn't have specific hit locations and combat isn't so gore filled experience like in Dark Messiah.

You know what I definatley dont what which is like oblivion? The length. Due to the size of the world and having to put interactions with almost anything to keep it feeling somewhat alive and realistic, I was bored of the game before I ever finished it.

Only later after downloading a few mods I played it again but not for very long. You max everything and do everything a third of the way through the game, once you realise you have reached your characters potential the rest of the game just becomes boring. I didnt wanto do all those extra quests in the game. I wouldnt have minded seeing what happened about the emperor and other story titbits.

As far as I saw they could have put a lot less time into its size and made it more character detailed with more combat/magic skills rather than the same old spell but bigger. Not to mention how poor it ran. No matter the res it was in it always skipped frames, especially in the open. Now dark messiah already takes a HEAP to run and in much smaller environments. I just imagine how crappily it would run or how bad it would haveto look.

I don't think it's the size that was the problem but a lack of skills; Fallout and Bloodlines did it better. The number of skills and just the general amount of stuff you could do to your character made it so that you could play the game through a dozen times an there still things you missed.
Hell, maybe Timothy Cain should be involved in the DM sequel...

Also the 4 final ends are quite lame, it almost dosent change.
