1.If the game is going to be linear, make it a long game with double the gameplay hours.

So basically, don't rush it so you can put in all the features that are needed/desirable/fun and test it thourghly? Sound advice for any developer who wants to make a cracking game.

You know taking time to get it right is why Valve games are usually awesomesauce.
Oh, and I'd suggest KEEP SUPPORTING THE GAME. Especially the MP, especially when it's quite a brokened MP compared to some of the very polished MP games out there today. An updated DM MP that's actually balanced well with no/very minor exploits, no/very minor bugs and no way at all to hack it without tremendous effort would be Godly. Heck I found it great the first time round, if done better it could be Legendary.
Although story wise, tis hard to say what to suggest. I personally think all new characters, with perhaps cameos from the first game, and an all new player charcter would be the way to go, with a story that's perhaps very unrelated to the first DM. Just go elsewhere in the M&M universe, heck don't even call it DM, as long as the basic premise of swords, socery, FP action, lovely physics, ropebows and great environment interaction are there I'd be happy.
