EIB will work with Vista SP1.
You may have to install some other game using the Star Force protection system first and update the drivers. http://www.star-force.com/support/drivers/ download and install sfdrvup.exe The incompatible S-F drivers on older games must be installed before running the update. I installed Splinter Cell-Chaos Theory first, then updated the Star Force driver. No problems at all installing or running EIB. Good Luck, I know this has been a problem with Vista from day one. |

I have just installed EIB on a PC running vista and pressing the central mouse button bombs the whole program. Plus if I choose cross-hair in one scenario, it is not remembered in the next scenario. Ian Foley 1942

I just installed it on a new machine, and EIB proceeded to crash my machine, which told me that I needed to run my Vista disk to repair my computer. It hated EIB so much that it obliterated the exe. files for all Ubisoft games.
This was Vista Home Premium 64. I have to tell you, after a weekend of putting two machines together only to have that happen to me, I can live without Brothers In Arms. |

Did it say on the box that it was compatable with vista?

No, but this thread title does. Neither did it say that it would send computers into lockup and repair mode if you installed it.
Most games, if they aren't compatible, just won't install. I've never seen ANYTHING like this, and I've been building my own machines for a decade or so. |

Well, you will learn over time, not to take everything at face value. Myself, I would rather go by what the box says. If it doesn`t say anything about vista, then I know the game may not be compatible with vista and I won`t buy it.

Looks like you're determined to win this one, so I'll let you score. HOWEVER, I've never, repeat, NEVER had a game do to my machine what this did. And I didn't just go out and buy it. I just figured I'd reinstall it on the new drive, since I had it before. That's fine -- I'll just use the CDs as bathroom passes for my high schoolers. I figure they ought to be worth something.

sometimes apps do really frustrating things to your computer and it is so frustrating when it happens to you
That said, I am running a laptop and Vista and initially it wouldn't work it installed OK (said on the box it was 2000 and XP only) initially after installing an error appeared saying missing Files, so right clicked on the desktop Icon and ran as administrator. then Vista said it had prevented from running an incompatible driver naming starforce as the offending driver (protect.dll). I searched for the Starforce website and it has updated driver to download as a Zip file. open this and run the exe file I didn't get the option of doing anything with the exe. it ran and I then started EIB (sorry can't remember whether I ran it as administrator for this first time) I got past the first error and was prompted for the serial number had to enter it twice as I had caplock on and it refused my serial number but it ran and I was able to start the game. can't say I won't have any problems but I have played the first couple of levels OK. Hope this helps someone Graham |
