Anyone been able to get this to install? I've tried on 2 machines but get exact same symptoms(1 custom built powerhouse, 1 laptop). I am using RTM (build 6000) Vista Ultimate.

** Start setup using 'run as administrator' (I've tried WinXP compat mode and logging in as Administrator account too).
** Hourglass appears, then disappears. Setup.exe sits in idle state at about 6.5mb(task manager) indefinately.

Ideas? Success stories?

Thanks
Rob

Same problem here on a laptop AMD64/ATI9700 running Vista. I tried to run setup.exe from legit DVD and nothing happened.

Same thing for me. It just won't intall and can't force it to install either. I sent Ubi tech support and email and this is the response I got:

Unfortunately, Windows Vista is currently unsupported for all Ubi Soft Entertainment products. Thank you for your understanding in this matter.

Is there someone out there that has figured this out or some kind of hack to get this to install?

Well I do know this ...

Road to Hill 30 had the same issue early in the Vista beta. Microsoft dev was able to fix this by writing a shim that ignored a specific call the game setup.exe was making. However it was noted that this was a UBI issue. I have opened a new bug against Vista, but likely this will have to be fixed via UBI since Vista has RTM'd.

** hence beta ?? **

That makes no sense. Read my reply again. This is a UBI problem that MSFT was able to workaround while Vista was in beta. Now that Vista has RTM'ed (which I am using) this will likely have to be fixed by UBI.

Seems like UBIsoft have got a regressive developer in their midst! BIA RTH30 works fine on my Vista PC (builds 5744 to final), so why won't EIB?!

Apparently it's not the code, but the copy-protection system!

So come on UBIsoft sort it out so we can play the sequel! Otherwise, it's in the bin for my copy and steer clear of UBISoft software.

I'm having the same issues also, upgrade to Vista Professional, and now I can't install the game.

So I either run Vista, or BIA EIB, but not both.

If it really is the copy protection stuff, it's just another example where the a legitimate user is being penalised, when at the end of the day the copy protection stuff does not stop the pirates anyway.

UbiSoft, can you please let us know if this is going to be fixed?

I have a BIA LAN session tomorrow, and now it looks like I have to de-install my $980 copy of Vista to do so... it's not fair.

I have the same problem, I did a clean install of Vista Ultimate and first installed Silent Hunter 3. I kept getting a Starforce compatability error. was able to get an update from the starforce website to resolve that. and Silent Hunter works fine. No matter what I do I can not get BIA EIB, to install. I have tried compatability modes, running as admin, everything I can think of, Just like everyone else this one just sits. It will even let you run it multiple times, I watched the processes screen and it would just keep adding setup.exe to the processes each time I clicked it still nothing. Hopefully someone will come up with a work around.

I've tried the following to NO AVAIL:

-Go to DVD-Rom, open the System folder.
-Right click Protect.exe, properties, enable 'Run as Admin' on compatibility tab.
-Open DOS prompt, go to the DVD's System folder and run protect.exe /drv:install
-Download the latest StarForce drivers from http://www.star-force.com/support/sfdrvup.zip
-Reboot the system
-Retry installing.

But, as I said, this DOES NOT work. Perhaps it'll give someone else some other ideas or perhaps it will work on some other computers, I'm not sure.

I also just got BIA EIB and am pretty surprised it won't run on Vista.

Is there ANY sign Ubisoft is working on getting this fixed or have we just all wasted money? And can the people who are going to upgrade to Vista in the future forget about ever playing a game they paid money for again?

So let's say that you have all of the update and Secuirty Pack 1 installed. EIB can be installed and gets as far as the "Loading" screen until it loops forever, playing the lovely orchestral music, ad nauseum. So what next? MS isn't going to fix UBI's problem with interfacing. UBI seems incompetent to do it or it would be done. What now?

I'm running XP and cannot get into multiplayer. When I try to create my UBI.com account it gives me a server error and nobody is playing the game on XFire! This is the most worthless 40 bucks I have ever spent. Thanks a lot EBI! I will never buy one of your games again. I don't care how popular or cool people say it. Screw this and you will never get me again! I am going to Vist and I'm sure COD2 and COD4 are going to work just fine... EBI, maybe you should hire some of their employees?
