When I try to start the single player mission the following error message appears:

Cannot find file for package D15_1130

which means I don't get to play. Has anybody else encountered this?

MOVE ICON:

I have been noticing since the first chapter that when I right click to bring up the "move" circle and bring it up to the enemy so it will change to "fire/suppress"....the game seems very confused. I am often seeing it not change over to red...or seeing it flip around. If I am very precise and move the mouse hardly at all while over the enemy..it will maintain red. Unfortuneatly..longer than I should be in view of enemy.

I am having to remove my squad so they don't try to move to that position.

In RTH30..it seemed much more precise. The game was not having any trouble knowing when I wanted to suppress the enemy.

Theres one minor thing Ive noticed. Everytime i zoom in with my gun for the first time on a level, it will lag for about 5 seconds. Once Ive zoomed in, it wont do it again, even if i die. It might be my PC, but it just seems very consistent of when it happens

I ran filemon while the game was loading and it reports a number of missing files. Wonder if we could have hit a bad batch of cds maybe?

Here's a few examples of the files it complains about not being present.

07:56:55 EiB.exe:1656 QUERY INFORMATION C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Gearbox Software\BrothersInArmsEiB\System\D15_1130.dll NOT FOUND Attributes: Error

07:55:25 EiB.exe:1656 QUERY INFORMATION C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Gearbox Software\BrothersInArmsEiB\System\W_USBAZOOKA.dll NOT FOUND Attributes: Error

07:55:25 EiB.exe:1656 QUERY INFORMATION C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Gearbox Software\BrothersInArmsEiB\System\S_npc_weapon_us.dll NOT FOUND Attributes: Error

07:55:25 EiB.exe:1656 QUERY INFORMATION C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Gearbox Software\BrothersInArmsEiB\System\W_MORTAR.dll NOT FOUND Attributes: Error

07:55:33 EiB.exe:1656 QUERY INFORMATION C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Gearbox Software\BrothersInArmsEiB\System\s_military_us.dll NOT FOUND Attributes: Error

Could someone with a working copy confirm whether these files are there or not on their install please?

D15_1130 should be a .uax file in your Sounds folder.

The files beginning with W_ should also be .uax files in the Sounds folder.

The ones beggining with S_ should be .usx files in your StaticMesh folder.

If you are missing these files, you should uninstall the game and reinstall it. You may have a defective CD/DVD disk.

NONE of these files are .dll files, so I'm not sure what filemon is trying to do with them as .dll files.

I've looked on my machine and the files all seem to be named as they should, except that they are in lower case and not upper, although in windows that shouldn't be a problem.

I've re-installed the game and still the same problem exists.

Has anybody from the developers seen this and got anything to say or is that hoping for too much???

well i don't know if anybody else has ever had this, but i've got a screwy setup.exe, autorun doesn't bring up a menu to install, and if i go into the disc and try to select setup.exe it just gives me the old "application error, the application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000006). Click on OK to terminate the application.

and before i was getting a problem with nt on-access scanner error, but i dealt with that, think it was just my comp competing with other virus scanner

could anybody help because god knows ubi doesn't do a great job of supporting

Thanks Botman

All the files seem to be present. There is a 45MB d15_1130_sounds.uax in the sounds directory, and the others you mention seem to be there in the right place. Not sure what's up with filemon and the .dll extensions...

Is there any way to get more detail on the failure ( verbose logs etc ) that'd help diagnose the problem?

I filtered the filemon stuff to just the point of failure, and it looks like it is looking for a d15_1130.uax file that isn't there. There is the d15_1130_sounds.uax file in that directory...

The scanning of the system dir for the same file with a dll extension seems to be a common pattern during loading, with other successful loads showing the same pattern as the failure below

Here's a trace of the failure...

Interestingly if i rename d15_1130_sounds.uax to d15_1130.uax the game then gets further and at least loads the first chapter. I'll report back on how much further it gets before more problems...

snip...

So i did finally get all this working. It took a bit of manual tweaking but the game seems to run well now ( it's pretty cool when it works :-) ).

Basically it looks like disks 3 and 4 didnt install properly, and a number of the sound files are missing, along with some of the localized text messages that show up telling you what to do. they are present on the cds ok, and thankfully there are enough tools provided to fix things up manually. Here's what i did to fix things if it'll help others in the same position:

1) install the sdk off disk 1. This allows you to decompress the .uz2 files manually using ucc decompress ( it install ucc.exe into the system folder )

2) copy over all of the cds on top of your existing installation. Tell it not to overwrite whats already present. After this step you end up with a lot of .uz2 files in the sound, texture, animation etc subdirs

3) manually decompress all of the .uz2 files that you copied over. This is probably overkill but i figured better safe than sorry so did the lot. At the very least do the sound dir :-)

easiest way to do this is to use a command script, something like:

for %%i in ( *.uz2 ) do ..\system\ucc decompress "%%~fi"

does the trick if you run it in each of the subdirectories that contain the .uz2 files:
animation
maps
media
music
sound
staticmesh
texture

4) delete the .uz2 files you copied across.

After all of this the game seems to work great and i've seen no more problems ( at least through the first chapter )

Well I finally got mine to install correctly too. I think the 3rd disk was the problem, went through way too fast on the first two installs.

Thanks for your help everyone.

More bugs..seem to be same as RTH30:

1)Squadmates will easily move to the front of cover instead of staying behind it.

2)Command squad to move to a waist high berm. After all are present..I will often get "I can't shoot there sir" from one of them when I command to suppress an enemy downrange. Squadmate will not move to fire on enemy.

Goatnewt - I have exactly the same problem and Im having real difficulty sorting it out. I cant understand your instructions unfortunately - any chance you could break it down a bit more for my poor brain to grasp ?

Im sure the problem is disc 3 as the other guy said - its barely in the drive before Im being asked to put in the next disc. Ive got 2 drives - a SONY dvd-rom and a LG CDRW and neither drive can install this properly.

I cant get back into town to swap this game for several days so Im thoroughly pissed off with having spent £33 and having nothing to play.

I had a similar experience loaded the game 5 times etc etc. I thought as a wild shot switch off my anti virus software and it works a treat, no more can't find package D15_1130. once the game is installed switch the AV back on.

I hope this helps someone

Sorry folks I should Clarify switch off the AV only during installation and disc 3 is without doubt the problem. When the av sofware is off disc 3 actually stays in the drive quite sometime.
The AV sofware I'm running is PC-Cillin 2005

I used UT2004Mi to decompress the uz2 files and the game runs now but the text messages are garbled. I too use PCcillin but dont have it running all the time. Ive uninstalled and reinstalled the game 7 or 8 times and got stuck with the 'Cannot find file' message until I used
UT2004Mi to decompress all the files.
