As you said i have moved it to the tech support page please can you contact them for me as over a week without any contact is very poor service, thank you.
This is what is says on the ubi support page. 000000-000000 Title = Brothers in Arms Ear Date Created = 03/08/2006 15:56 Subject = I installed your game and played it fine Status = Holding 03/09/2006 = 03/09/2006 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I installed your game and played it fine but the very next day I started to get errors when burning with my DVD drive. this happened 4 times so I uninstalled the starforce copy protection and my burner now works again wtf is going on I have a game I cannot use because of the **** you are bundling with your software, sort it out btw I want a full refund on the game that is useless to me as it messes with my hardware! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Well a fix for it would be helpful, like a link to enable me to play without the starforce maybe. So another thread about a pc game has been deleted then by the mods Ubi squeezing you since I posted them this link whisper maybe let the people decide if it is an issue instead of brushing over the fact that Ubi don’t give a dam and there is no fix for the issues if you are unlucky enough to have it! As for a witch hunt I can’t see thousands of people flaming Ubi with no issues to back up any theory. I have encountered an issue with my drive that uninstalling starforce fixes so maybe there should be a patch to fix this issue. I doubt very much if most of the people that own the game realise that errors they are experiencing may have been caused by this code so keeping threads like these open is a good way let people that this may be a factor and all closing them does is hide the truth. I would be grateful if you would contact Ubi and post any response you find here Thank You. |

WE_STAND_ALONE mentioned something about him e-mailing for some help, I'm not sure if he already did so perhaps you can try asking him in a PM. I assume the Community Managers would be in the position to find out why tech support is not answering your e-mails.

Okay pigfister..this is the end of your useless posting. You were warned previously. A few things you don't understand..
1) This is the COMMUNITY help forum, not the official UBI tech support forum. To contact OFFICIAL UBI support you need to call or email them through the www.ubi.com website 2)You still seem to think we are deleting threads about Starforce. WE ARE NOT AND HAVE NOT. As you ALREADY know, ONE was closed due for 2 reasons: A)you keep replying with no purpose but to say..nope haven't heard a thing yet B)tech issues should be posted in this tech forum. I HAVE emailed someone and they said: I wish there was something we could do for these people but there just isn't. Basically, when people are having problems such as this, they will need to contact StarForce for assistance. I wish I had more info I could give you to help out, but it looks like the best thing they could do is just contact StarForce so they can try and look into this for them. so, that is it in a nutshell. It appears they are stuck in the middle when it comes to SF issues. If you wish to rant..do it elsewhere..like emails to tech support, SF, or whonever but do not continue this here. I suggest when you do email or call someone, you do not sound like or write like you did in email #2. Final warning |

Pigfister, like WE_STAND_ALONE already said please remain calm. Shouting or posting like this won't help either. I understand if you're frustrated, but in the end only Starforce is capable of solving this problem. I can only ask that you be patient and try to work together with Starforce tech support. I see they linked you to a Microsoft support webpage, but be aware that the error codes there apply to the Device Manager, not the event log. I'll see if I can get some more details out of the event ID log tomorrow (I don't have time now). What is the exact description that you see in the details for any of the ID 7 events in your event logs (for example "The device...has a bad block")?
thank you Daroth_343 if you follow this link there is a print screen of the event and the code is at the top of this page:
http://www.star-force.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=707
WE_STAND_ALONE where do you think i have been asking for help? the cut and paste and their ref no was taken from their help page i have had no response from then about contacting starforce they have just ignored all my mail sent, i can cut and paste the lot from my ubi account pages if you like! do you not think people should be aware that ubisoft offer no help for their games, is that not important to the gaming community? the link where i took the info from was supplied to me by the starforce tech support. i thought event 7 was bad blocks usually because of your hd developing faults/bad sectors but i was told otherwise. THIS QUOT IS TAKEN FROM THE CONSUMER LAW PAGES IN THE UK SO UBI HAVE TO DEAL WITH THIS MATTER. IT WOULD HAVE BEEN NICE TO GET AN EMAIL FROM THEM AS THEY STILL HAVE YET TO REPLY TO ME THANK YOU FOR CONTACTING THEM ON MY BEHALF. If you're in the UK, you're covered by some comprehensive consumer law, honed over the past few decades, that gives you some very good rights. The government actually has a good web site giving the details of what to do if something goes wrong and what your rights are, but if you don't want to go through that, here are some points you ought to know: * Your contract is with the seller, NOT the manufacturer. If (say) you buy a Toshiba laptop from PC World and it goes wrong, don't be fobbed off by PC World telling you to get the manufacturer to repair it under warrenty. Legally, PC World MUST deal with the problem. * Goods must be fit for purpose, including any purpose you specifically mention to the seller. Fit for purpose is a great phrase - always use it, as it oftens triggers escalation to the next level of service. They must also be "of reasonable quality" which is another great phrase to quote at people. * You have the right to reject faulty goods and obtain a refund, replacement, or repair. This is up to a "reasonable" time, but reasonable is not defined in law as it depends on circumstances. For example, if you buy a new laptop but don't use the wireless networking, only to find six months later when you first try it that it doesn't work, you're perfectly entitled to reject the goods and ask for a replacement. EVEN IF YOU SIGN AN ACCEPTANCE NOTE, YOU DON'T LOSE YOUR RIGHTS. This message has been edited. Last edited by: pigfister2005, |

The information I'm referring to is the same screen where you get the hexadecimal data you posted before (the properties of a specific event). There should be a description there. Do you have any virtual drive software installed, and if so does uninstalling it make any difference? Now that we mentioned the Device Manager, you could also check for errors there. The correct page for XP is this one:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN;310123 Read the "summary" section to find out how to check for errors using the Device Manager. |
is this what you mean? i have no errors in the device manager it says "This device is working properly" on both my optical drives. dt installed. it makes no differance with it on or off. i have just had another burning error after reinstalling b.i.a. eib with the latest ver of starfarce. will post screen shots asap but need another host site as my photobucket wont allow me access to upload. ffs computers! |

That's indeed what I meant, it does confirm the error as a bad block on the device. Do you have any problems reading from the other drive?
Shutting down Daemon Tools doesn't really exclude compatibility problems because like Starforce their drivers remain active. You'd need to uninstall daemon Tools or deactivate its kernel drivers, but I'm not sure if those are visible in "Non-plug and play" drivers. I doubt it has got anything to do with the drive itself, I know people who have the same one and who don't have problems with Starforce. It could be down to a hardware (IDE controller for example, what motherboard do you have?) or software compatibility problem, that's something Starforce should try to find out. If the problem only occurs when Starforce drivers are running, redetecting the drive or reinstalling IDE drivers probably won't do much good, since they do work fine after uninstalling SF drivers. Figuring out the hexadecimal data from the Event ID 7 might hold more information, but I'm afraid I currently don't have sufficient information about that. The Microsoft support page does have some information on decoding the data section: http://support.microsoft.com/?id=244780 As you can see the first 03 shows that it was a read operation, and the following 02 shows the number of retries remaining, etc... Ideally you'd want to have a clean windows installation to see if the problem still occurs, if it does it would point more towards hardware incompatibility. Of course reinstalling XP is not always an option for everyone… |

i have tried it with dt uninstalled as i thought that may have been why myself but that didnt solve the issue. only my dvd is suffering this time around, when i had the msi dvd i got a few glitches with my cd but i put that down to poor media bad gitter. Since i have been using my new nec drive i have been backing up to dvd and not cd so other than a few cd compliations for the car it has been fairly redundant.
my mobo is a gigabyte GA-8IRXP intel 845DDR/ICH2 P4 socket 478 i can format as i have windows disc + drivers not stupid ass restore, but i'd rather not. |

hey i got a response from ubisoft about their game cd i have::
Response (UK Technical Support) - 03/15/2006 13:42 Hello, My apologies for the delay in a response. We are simply a company which uses the starforce protection system to protect our game assets. If you feel that the protection system for our game has damaged your system then you will be best advised to contact the copy protection company directly. There is contact details available on the following website : http://www.star-force.com Please also note that the starforce company has an offer going that if you can prove that damage was done to your system as a result of the starforce protection system then you can win a cash prize. See the following link for details : http://www.star-force.com/protection.phtml?c=261Â&id=707 Thanks, Technical Support. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- how lame is that basicly they offer no support! i guess they didnt even read the email as i stated that after i removed starforce all is fine but i cant play the game! |

It would be best to contact Starforce by e-mailing them at support@star-force.com, their forum support is meant for general problems. Be sure to include the screenshots, they will usually request the information you get by running msinfo32 (Start > Run... > type "msinfo32" and enter > Save as...), that contains the complete hardware configuration and all the software installed on your system. With that they can try to reproduce the problem and hopefully find a solution for you.

I did a system information report along with a dxdiag and posted it on the forum but Nerva deleted my posts, I then sent him the info he requested and since that I’ve heard nowt! All this hassle just to play a game I would prefer it if Ubi could give support for their game and not palm me off with a lame excuse! |

The fact is that Ubisoft technical support simply doesn't know how Starforce works so they can't offer any support with problems like this. It's an unfortunate situation but I don't think it's not going to change anytime soon. By the way, since you can actually play the game does that mean it doesn't have any problems reading from the DVD during the validation?
the game validates and plays fine which is where they have got me by the balls, it is that starforce messes up my attempts to burn using my dvd burner so the code distrubited ubisoft is corrupting my computer but i suppose they will say to me you can only run it without any other software on your pc including windows, why we are at it lets just call it "the PcPlaystationXboxThingyMaJig" that we only want people to play our games on or they can stop making software for peoples computers that are forever in need of patches and bug fixes SO WE DONT COST THE END USER $£££$$££$ TO REPLACE THEIR HARDWARE YOU FUKERS! aaaarrrrgggghhhhhhhhhhhhHHHHHHHH......SDF;BLKSD;LKB I43252-9 RH43RY2-938N4Y R32T5E;OTNGYE=-7[23U
i emailed starforce to see if they can now fix this for me, i think they hope people will not realise that a copy protection could cause such issues or they will get tired of the fight and give up! |

pigfister...you are a click away from being banned permanently.
You continued to post useless info after I asked you to stop but I let it go and even emailed a tech to look into this for you. Now your bypassing the forum filter and swearing. I highly suggest you cool off, start posting more maturely, and take it easy. Your acting like this is the end of the world..it's a computer game for gods sake. Do you need to burn a cd/dvd everyday or what? |
