They should be giving copies to Ain't it Cool News (they'd flip out over this!) and advertising during something like Adult Swim at the very least. I wish they would have been able to bring this game to Comic-Con and build some buzz.

Suda's done a really good job getting the gaming media to take notice of it, but for this game to be a hit Ubisoft has to give it at least some push.

I fell in love with this game after seeing the early trailer that came out a year ago. There was a lot of hype back then, but a lot of it has died down. Penny-arcade has been running some NMH ads, but I really wish there would be some TV spots in the US. I know that Europe has a few commercials, but I haven't seen any stateside.

It's as if Suda's outside the stores trying to hand out toilet paper again. I went to a Gamestop yesterday and saw that Endless Ocean and their boxes on the "coming soon" section of the shelf but not No More Heroes. I went to my buddy that works there and asked "You've got Endless Ocean on the shelf, but not No More Heroes?" He said "Yeah, Ubisoft didn't send the cover art to us. Otherwise, we'd put it up." He then added. "You're the only guy out of all the customers we've ever had that even talks about No More Heroes. No one else cares." I don't know what to think but maybe the bump in the release date took time away from promoting it. Sure, it's good for us, but maybe bad for sales. They were probably going to kick off promotion about now in anticipation for the original Feb 5th release. Hell, if they needed more time to promote, I wouldn't mind waiting longer.

Ugh, dammit Ubi. Why even bother publishing the game if your not going to advertise it at all?
1 banner on IGN and a forum with 8 threads isn't cutting it.

I'm probably the only person in Texas that even knows this game exists.

I mean I'm glad they are publishing it, for the sake of the ten of us in the know, but I wish they would advertise and generate some buzz so this game won't flop.

Well, if Ubi isn't advertising it, maybe we should. If you're on really good terms with your Gamestop employees, ask if you can put up a big advertisement for the game or something. Sure, it might look weird on standard paper, but maybe it's better than no advertising at all.

I was already considering that. If it were up to my friends, they'd let me. It's just that they have to obey all these rules and regulations and corporate BS. It is Gamestop and they expect to be payed to use their walls. I'll give it a shot today anyway.

The easiest way for us to advertise it is to go ahead and get as many of our friends who also own the Wii to purchase the game (I already have one definite sale other than myself and a possible of two or three more).

At least Ubisoft has managed to advertise on a number of large gaming websites.

I believe that they should see about getting Suda 51 to go on a couple of shows like Attack of the Show or whatever and promote it (though he might need a translator, but still).

Recommend this title to anyone you know that has a Wii!

Alright, here's an update: So I went into Gamestop with my color printed No More Heroes picture and I asked if I could put it up somewhere. They talked for a bit amongst themselves about how Ubisoft didn't pay for it and how they might get in trouble. They soon after agreed to put the picture in the notebook that's open to the customers to browse through. Well THAT'S SOMETHING! At least there's No More Heroes related anything in the Gamestop for once.

I think that once this game picks up off the ground, Ubisoft will start advertising. Very often you see game advertisements after the game release.

Just saw a full page ad for NMH in Game Informer. It's still says "Coming February" on it, but that's good enough.

So I was browsing around to see what games there were for the Wii that might interest me since my younger sister got one for the holidays and there was NOTHING. All it has are either ports of old games or kiddie games. Then I found this after skimming through the websites for a few hours and became immediately hooked! It looks great! I asked my friends who had a Wii if they knew anything about it and they just gave me blank stares. Everyone I know who has a Wii is either ignorant of the fact that this game exists or they are too busy waiting for Super Smash Brothers, which is not my cup of tea. But personally I cannot wait!

I can see it now. Ubisoft is going to say the game hardly sold at all, no more risks! Assassin's Creed, as an original IP would not have made it without that HUGE marketing push.

Just get ads for this onto Adult Swim and MTV, and a few other places where Wii gamers that want something new and awesome will actually be watching!

I hated all those Assassin's Creed commercials, every time I turned on a TV they showed the commercial. I played it at a friend's place and did not enjoy it at all. It just pisses me off when people complain about how there are no unique or fun games for a system and then when a good one comes out the company does not advertise it and it fails due to low sales. Nuh uh

This is why we can't have nice things. Or maybe Ubisoft in some stroke of sheer genius wants to play some sort of "underground cult game / you wish you were in the know" sort of card. Maybe make it seem as if you and a small group of others know about this game and that makes you cool. Maybe have the popularity build with some viral marketing. Maybe play a commercial only with images of the game but no mention of the title nor what system it's on. Perhaps the only thing that should be heard is Travis going "MOE~." Bait the viewer and make him want to know more. Make him feel as if he stumbled upon something. It's been done with movies and music many times before. Ubisoft, call me!

Well... If they want money then I doubt it. They probably decided not to advertise much here due to the disappointing sales in Japan. Most companies are only looking for a profit so I highly doubt they are not advertising to obtain it a cult following. And if it ever does get a cult following, they are going to milk it for all it is worth.

I think the game has received a lot of promotion. It was on the cover of the first holiday issue of Nintendo Power, it has been featured in two or three episodes of the all new 2008 X-Play the past week, and that Killer 7 game was considered one of the last memorable games on the GCN.

As for Gamestop, who really cares if they advertise for the game? 90% of the time when I walk into a store, I already know what I want to buy. Garnishing a cult following isn't a bad thing for a game anymore either - as long as you build a loyal fanbase then there's a medium for similar titles.

I don't even know when the game comes out for sure, or if it is even out already. But it'll be there on the shelves someday, it's not going anywhere, so even if No More Heroes gets poor initial sales here, it could still do well in the long run - kinda like Disgaea did for the PS2.

I am kind of just glad that Ubisoft decided to help in bringing the game over to the U.S. and publish it.

Too bad IGN did not do a "Buy No More Heroes" campaign...

That's true, but it always helps when a game sells well on release day. People don't want to make games that'll sell well over a long period of time or when it's price is reduced. They want cash to start rolling in soon. It's not that I want NMH to sell because the game is so great (I already know it is), I want Execs to consider a NMH2 and more Suda 51 games.

Yeah, I'd have to agree with you there. Suda51 might actually shy away from making titles like this in the future if they don't think games like this are gonna sell. I'm actually feelin' kinda guilty right now because while I'm interested in No More Heroes, there are lots of other great games coming out for the DS and Wii right now, and I'm not employed at the moment - this is going to be the last of my paychecks for a while. I really wish that stores still supported the whole gameplay demo thing the way they used to in the 90's - you would go anywhere; Sears, Wal Mart, K-Mart; any place you would go they would have the real console with the actual game in it, so you could try the thing out. Anymore you're lucky if you see a store demo with a playable demo, or with a new demo disc placed into the system every three years. I just feel like this is the type of game I would need to play first in order to see if it's something I would like to buy.

lol, I own a PS3 and the fact that you can download demos and see the games for yourself is the reason I haven't bought a single game for the PS3. But that's another story.
