What do you all think of the censoring done to the Japanese and European versions of the game? Do you believe that this had something to do with the lukewarm reception that Japan gave to the game? If you are unaware of what the difference is look at the link below, which contains a comparison of the two!
Americans love violence so releasing NMH with blood in America was a smart move. I know Europe is more strict when it comes to violence so it just makes sense. Maybe they think Medieval Europe will come back (lol just joking). Europe is however more lenient when it comes to sex. America is horribly sexually oppressed. I actually thought Japan would get blood what with the violent movies and anime they enjoy, but oh well.
As for the game, I'd be happy with either. The combat is focused on then movement and actions and not on the look. You'd be too busy getting the moves right and taking on all the enemies to worry about that stuff. And who says the black fuzz isn't cool? It just makes the beam katana seem more wicked.
I like the stylistic effect that the blood gives to each move, it turns cutting someone in half into an art from. The black cloud just seems a bit bland. I do not think that the black clouds would lessen the fun of the game play but I am certainly happy that we get the unedited version.

I think it's a common misconception for people to think that all Americans crave violent games. I mean I'm a 19 year old American male, and I don't care much for first-person shooters or realistic games. If I can be into a different variety of games, then there's a market for something other than bloody gore here.
Now, getting back to the question, do I think that the censorship was lame? Not really. All blood is, is microscopic cells that carry oxygen through our body - it's part of us and is us. Black smoke is black smoke. Either way you look at it, I don't think the blood or smoke are lamer than the other, since you will see those things in everday life. People are just scared of blood because if they see it, it means it is not inside of someone, I guess.
I do not really view it as censorship per-say in the Japanese case because that is just the Japanese culture (it tends to have less violence and such than American culture). On the European case though, I do think there are many people who would rather have the bloody version instead of the other version, so I see it as more as censorship.
Actualy, the real reason for the cencorship was revealed in an inrerview with Suda51 himself. In Japan, game material is not allowed to be shown to the public if it has been rated for mature audiences. Suda wanted many people to know about NO MORE HEROES, so he cencored parts of it so that it wouldn't get a bad rating. This interview can be found at gamesradar.com (look for a picture of a guy on a toilet, that's probably it.)

That makes sense, it seemed a bit odd that he would edit it seeing that most of the japanese enjoy their anime nice and gory.

But you know, the gore in the game doesn't really seem that bad - actually it's kinda funny. I mean, you're slashing off arms and legs left and right, and blood just sprays out like a volcano. I don't think censorship is really needed when a game takes such an unrealistic and exadurated approach to something that would normally look and be much more serious.
I'm going to cancel my preorder of this game becouse of the STUPID censoring... I was really looking forward to this game (looks awesome) but when I looked at some videos from the european/ japanese version I didn't want it anymore. I think that the censoring takes away all the charm of the game, the blood effects was like in kill bill, it was used as an artistic way of making it look beauthiful (and no I'm not a violent mass murder) and since the blood was showed in such a unrealistic way I really don't know why they had to censor and destroy this would-have-been-must-buy-game.
