Phoenixan, this game you're working on is incredible. I've just played your demo and I found it thoroughly enjoyable. Can't wait for this full version. Keep up the brilliant work, old chap!

I'm good at artwork! Well, as long as you don't mind my style of drawing. I also don't do colors well... But my sketching has been noted for being excellent if you need that. What do you need? I'll try to show you as soon as my scanners hooked up.

Guys, I've got some terrible news. Frown My computer died on my in a wind storm, and now GameMaker 7 will not reactivate. This means that until they get back to me through e-mail (if they ever do -.-; ), I can't work on Phoenixan: Fire Under Siege anymore.

It's more-so a problem with softwrap/Yoyogames, just because I actually already installed my license like... 3 times.

If they don't get back to me in a couple days, I'll move $20 over to my checking and purchase it with my debit card instead, since last time, it was done with my mom's credit card. Or I could just revive the project using another format, since I have begun to mess around with Python and Java, but it's not worth restarting FUS. :\ We'll see what happens.

*edit*

Well, nevermind. Big Grin It seems that they contacted me... today. I was expecting months and months according to the comments people were leaving at the GMC! Maybe it's just that they're not giving the proper details or something. :\ But I'm quite amazed, and things will get back on track again.

Great. That's just... great. Smile
So Yoyogames isn't that bad after all.
So when do you think this will be finished? ^^

By the way... if your computer died, didn't you lose some progress?
Makes me think... I should make a backup of my game once... if my computer would die, it would be completely lost. -_-

That's true. I really should back-up my games to.

This game just is... it's so good there isn't a word for. This is amazing. And this is a example that Game Maker can make very good games. If there would be a Game maker awards, this would be the game i'm voting on.

After playing this, i think i'm going to finish all my projects. This game just gives me the old Game Maker fever again Veryhappy.

I didn't lose anything but time. All my files were backed up on my thumb drive + the company actually put all my existing files in a backup folder on the desktop. Softwrap was very fast to answer my questions, though Yoyogames themselves don't seem to be on the ball.

By the way, I had this talk with several people on MSN... the Courage power.

I had it be Phoenixan's substitute for Rayman's helicopter. It needs to be different though, I think.

A lot of people suggested either a double jump or a wall jump rather than a rail of fire that he could glide down. I'm leaning towards the double jump, though the wall jump could leave room for some nice effects or puzzles too.

What do you all think about this?

And I think I will end up using the mechfish battle idea. Big Grin

Well double jump is great but with wall jump you can reach higher places with just one simple wall, double jump would need several platformes. Also you can make severeral secrets whats way wouldn't be showed if the player has wall jumps instead of duouble jump because then the platforms could easily show the secret places.
This kind of hiding secrets with wall jump would add more chance and play time for exploration and also gaining a reward like in this way would be more satisfying.

His animation here isn't necessarily the speed that it is in he game. Wink Plus I find he's going a little bit faster in IE than Firefox. Though, he does run at a max rate of 4 pixels per step as opposed to 3 pixels per step (the demo). It was something I fixed for the final because so many complained that Phoenixan ran too slow. Yes, or like Fang from Lost Vikings 2 (check it on youtube if you don't know what am I talking about).

Yeah, that could work out for him... it could even use a sort of animation involving his robotic hand, like the ledge hang. And I could even include a sort of flame burst when he leaps up from the wall.

By the way, here is the text from the intro of the full game. It sets up the story behind the dark and light abilities. It was on the first post last time I had a topic up, but I won't put it on the front this time.

Phoenixan, wake up...
You are in danger here.
Ask yourself, how long has it been?
How long since you entered this room and never left?
You are vulnerable, nowhere near ready to fight.
After all this time, after surving so many assaults,
Your spirit and feelings have decayed, drifting away.
All that is left now is the DARKNESS that lived within your heart,
And the FIREY traces of your near-dead spirit.
You must repair both, Phoenixan.
Only then you will be ready to strike back...
