I was lucky enough to receive a promo of the Orange Box this morning and jumped right into Portal (unintentional pun there).

I just completed it, it's not very long.. but it is excellent. It is a great little addition to the already packed out Orange Box, the humor throughout really had me chuckling to myself, for the love of god do finish it, the end credits are brilliant.

Played a bit of Team Fortress 2 also.. but I'm sure that deserves it's own thread.

EDIT: Just noticed that you get to replay 6 of th levels in 'advanced' mode once you beat the game, sweet!

Spoiler question:
Level 18. The big room where there are three little gun things on pedestals over the water, with the revolving .. gun thing in the middle where you can make portals to shoot the little gun things. What do you do then?

Much replay value?

I'm definitely getting this - I never played Half Life (except for a bit of the first game way back, which I was rubbish at), so I want to see what all the fuss is. I hear Ravenholm is not a nice place to visit

Would you want a guy who crawled through a sewage tunnel as a mate?

I was thinking about doing a written guide, but its too complicated to put into words, so I have found you a youtube link.

The trick with that level is some quick timing.. so if you want to work it out without seeing a whole guide this should help.

Setup a portal to send the ball towards the locked door that has the 'receiver' in it. Then quickly portal up to that panel in front of the locked door and just lean through to press the button (yes, that blue thing has a button on top).

Magic!

THEN.. the is loads more to do, but you'll work that out.

Edit: I just need to add something important about portal, it has the best ending I have seen in a game for a long time. Excellent final level and then you are rewarded with the best song I have ever heard.

I totally agree with that price - but I am glad I got in on the beta for TF2 and that gave an overall discount Smile

I WANNA COMPANION CUBE TOY!! I read somewhere that Valve were planning to make on in time for Christmas. Anyone got anything concrete on this?

Favourite Portal quotes!: ***spoiler-y quotes in pink***

"Oh, you only destroyed that one part of me that makes shoes for homeless children. Great going, hero."

"Remember when the platform was sliding into the fire pit and I said 'goodbye' and you were like 'no way' and then I was all 'I was just pretending to murder you'? That was great!"

"Quit now and we will serve cake immediately"

And my favourite:

"There was even going to be a party for you. A big party that all your friends were invited to. I even invited your best friend the companion cube. Of course, he couldn't come because you murdered him."

Thought I'd give it a try this morning and I have to say it's got me Smile Portal is very good - makes your mind really work (not that I don't mind using it now and then) and considering it's part of the great pack that Valve released then overall it's part of the best buy this year for me.

EDIT: Woh there Spoiler boy!!

Remember THE CAKE IS A LIE!!!

Also what psychotic A.I. does GLaDOS remind you of?

For me its a bit of a mixture between HAL from 2001 and elements of SHODAN from system shock, but GLaDOS has more of a sick sense of humour.

Every psychotic AI is automatically like HAL! But, you know, no-one ever remembers Proteus

I wonder if GlaDOS is related to KosMos of Xenosaga... a major part of that game? A monolith

And, yes, apparently there will be a Companion Cube desktop toy released at the end of this year due to the popularity of the game
