Nice review! Smile
My mum is rather keen to have a go on this now that I've bought myself a wii again.
But I personally think £70 is a bit steep although i guess it works out £40 for the board & £30 for the game.
I just like waiting to see whether game prices go up or down in the next months. Wink

You should read Rhoulette's latest blog - it, and the linked thread, is full of good tips for gamers who want to increase their fitness and wellbeing

Yeesh, 38? How much stock can you place in that assessment?

A thing I do from time to time is tense my arms, hands and legs (and I also walk everywhere). Completely free! I guess that would work for any muscle group...

A rowing machine is excellent for working most of your body at one time

Ninja - rowing machines are good, but you have to get your posture exactly right or else you can do damage to your back. I'm not confident I DO know the correct posture, AND I have a bad back - so I'm not risking it! Plus Wii Fit takes up a hell of a lot less room than a rowing machine Big Grin

Gypsy - Glad I could help!

Yeah, that's true (about posture and space) - I think you need to keep your back straight and bend your knees in the "stroke" though it's been ages since I used one...

Did you damage your back or something?

I'll keep my usual training at the Gym, thanks but no thanks, Nintendo. Now, if you actually produced ONE decent game, instead of this ****, I'd be happier.

Disclaimer: the previous totally hateful and spiteful message comes from my absolute Nintendo frustration, I'm growing to seriously hate them, their franchises, their non-gamer/mommy friendly politics, Miyamoto, Iwata and their whole ****ty attitude towards core gaming. Seriously, they deserve to all sink in the deepest depths of hell and burn, burn, burn...

I can understand your frustration. But just because a game is designed towards a casual gamer doesn't make it rubbish (although I've seen a hell of a lot of awful games.) It just means it won't appeal to a lot of us. And if it encourages people to get into gaming, is that such a bad thing? At the end of the day they're a business after all. If the Wii had been a flop, I think Ninty may well have gone the way of Sega. And I guess they still "throw us a bone" every so often, such as Twilight Princess. I've never been a huge Nintendo fan, so I guess I'm not that torn up about their change of tact.

Jam, a co-worker told me that he read something saying that complaints of a bad back are the male way to cry (sounds like feminine-inspired anti-male propaganda, if ever I've heard it), so what's your excuse? Big Grin

And here I thought I was being overly nosy or something by asking about it... did I need to tell you that? No, I suppose not

Oh, it's all right. Doesn't give me trouble most of the time. It can not bother me for years. Apparently I should do pilates, but I don't know much about it.

Ah, OK! Phew...

Pilates is a bit like yoga, I think. There are similarities between the two anyway. God, the amount of useless information that's stuck in my head...

I'm beginning to think that it would have been better if they went the way of sega. I'm afraid that Nintendo doesn't get people into gaming, it gets them into non-gaming and leaves them there, considering the extremely low amount of core games present on the console and the extremely low communication they get.

Now wii fit goes even to the lenghts of telling young girls that they are fat (and no one else than a doctor should tell anyone that they're overweight, since there are no standards that can fit in all human bodies). Not that it was something unpredictable, and definately something that shouldn't have been underestimated, like Nintendo obviously did.
I find going to poke young kids (expecially girls, but not only) self esteem is potentially more dangerous than many violent games, dangerous in a subtle way, but still more dangerous.
Before we had girls not eating to look like the model in the magazine, now we'll have girls not eating to make her wii fit happy. And as one that had a quite direct contact with anorexia (trough my ex girlfriend, and it has been an hell to pull her out of it), i can't do anything else than be disgusted by Nintendo's lack of insight. Just another signal of the fact that Miyamoto has gone completely nuts.

I think you're totally wrong about the Wii not having 'proper' games. Super Mario Galaxy, Mario Kart, Pro Evo Wii (the only truly next gen footy game), Metroid Prime, Paper Mario, No More Heroes (probably the best love letter to games I've seen in a long while) and Zack & Wiki. All these are amazing games and can still be considered proper games. So what if people only use it for WiiFit and WiiSports?

And with WiiFit it tries to keep you at an 'ideal' weight so if your BMI is too low it tells you to increase your weight. Essentially it's a posh set of scales so if you worry about your weight this isn't going to ease your mind. It's good for me as it gives me a little goal & reason to do some exercise.

I'm sure Miyamoto's bank manager doesn't agree with your diagnosis Smile

And when did i ever say that it hass NO proper games? I said that the number of it's proper games is extremely low. And even going as far as considering all the ones you named proper games, you named SEVEN games, which is indeed an extremely limited line up absolutely drowned in shovelware. Morover most those games had an extremely limited communication compared to the non games. No more heroes, that's undoubtly the best game the wii has at the moment, had ZERO communication. Absolute zero.

Too bad that a console software (running on a console that has the processing power of a texas instruments calculator) hasn't the slightest chance to properly judge an human ideal weight, expecially given the fact that the tables it uses are just a reference and should never be taken into account for proper diagnosis. The only one that should tell if someone should gain or loose weight is a doctor, or a dietist. In this the wii fit is basically a scam, and a damaging one at it, expecially in the hands of kids.

I'm sure you're not implying that we should judge one's value (or sanity) by his bank account, aren't you? Big Grin

While increased endurance is always a good thing, I wouldn't suggest any changes to UK Frag Doll shapes. All three of you take good pictures.

Pilates is great for building up and strengthening your core muscles. If you have a chance to do it, definitely give it a go. Your back troubles will be gone in no time. But make sure that your instructor has the relevant certificates. Improper use can do more harm than good, lol. I do it 3 times a week to keep the "abs of steel", lol.

But anyhow... check out this link related to the Wii Fit, lol: Girl upset by Wii Fit

The phrasing of that question doesn't make sense (or maybe it's just me), though I know what you meant by it. English is a weird language... You could either ask "Are you at all surprised?" or "Is it any surprise?" Anyway...

Miyamoto, while supposedly loaded, is apparently quite modest and requests an average income... whether that's true or just a bit of spin, I don't know

As for Nintendo and non-gaming etc, I bet you Sony and Microsoft are envious of the success of the Wii. I also bet you there'll be a boom in similar stuff on their systems in the near future...
