i received this game for christmas and i cant install either the us or uk version of the patch. i tried doing it in subsequent order with 1.01/1.02/1.03 with the us patches.. no dice.. then i tried with the uk version 1.02/1.03, again failure.

also i searched for the FAQ in the search option and only got posts asking y no one read the FAQ.. so i stopped searching for the faq as the search option appears completely useless and if i continued i possibly would have started killing people with blunt objects due to the frustration. any help would be much appreciated.

I can understand your frustration in trying to find the FAQ thread. There was a FAQ post, but unfortunately, it was recently removed.

First, make sure which version you have (US, UK, or French). I know this may not make sense, but there have been cases of US people getting the UK version, and vice versa. Go to Help, and click on About Chessmaster. It should say there.

Also, please tell message you're getting when you try to install the patch.

The computer I'm on at the moment only has Chessmaster 11, but I'll respond shortly after I get on my old machine with CMX...

In the meantime, take a deep breath, and try to resist the urge to hit people with blunt objects...

thanks for the advice with the go to the help and about chessmaster thing.... turns out it says i have version 1.0.3 so i dont actually need the patches so thats sweet... now i am just stuck wondering y the computer opponent always takes so long to/or doesnt make his move in the ranked play.

I'm having the same problem with the Anim8.dll message. I have 1.02 installed. US.
As soon as I point the patch 1.03 software to C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Chessmaster Grandmaster Edition and hit next it pops up with the following error. "C:\~\Anim8.dll unknown version"
The version of Anim8.dll is 4.0.1.0

Wait a second...

The instructions I gave to parkz1 were for Chessmaster 10th Edition. Chessmaster Grandmaster Edition (also known as Chessmaster 11) only has two updates -- the latest being version 1.2.0. So you already have the latest edition...

Chessmaster Grandmaster Edition has automatic updates, so unless something strange happens, you shouldn't need to manually download and install an update.
