When creating a user personality- a picture of a face carved out of white stone (marble perhaps?) appears as its avatar. It looks remarkably similar to me! I have looked through the program files but can't find the picture at all. I renamed the 'CMP' file to 'TXT' but it just says 'user_defined.bmp' Does anyone know what this picture is?

I'm a bit freaked out tbh! Need a lead!

All default pictures are integrated in one of the *.dat files.


If you want your custom picture to be displayed, just add a 76x97 24-bit bmp file in the Personalities folder. The bmp file has to have the exact same name as the cmp file.

No, Im' looking for information about this picture integrated in the .dat file. Do you know of a way of opening this dat file? Although i doubt its helpfully named.

Try it with file search on your computer. Tell it that it should search for a text "user_defined" inside the files.

I do not understand what you want to do and how you are about to get any information if you know where the file is. You are going to interogate the picture or something?

I am certain that all the bmp files are in

C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Chessmaster 10th edition\Data\TData\faces.dat


Maybe you can open it with some hex editor.

Well every picture is worth a thousand words! If I can blow it up it might reveal some useful detail. Cheers for the hex idea.
