If you haven't already done so, please read the Chessmaster 10th Edition FAQ...

At any rate, your message is extremely vague. It would be helpful if you could provide the following:

  • Your system specifications (including the operating system)
  • The exact error message you're getting.

If you're using XP or Vista, the chances of getting Chessmaster 7000 to run are slim to none (and Slim just left). You won't be able to get help from Ubisoft Technical Support either, as the lifecycle for this product ended long ago.

I wish I could provide better news; however, please reply with some more detailed information, and we'll take it from there.

    Thanks,

    KHollister

You posted to the Chessmaster Grandmaster Edition forum, which is for the current version. That's why I moved your post here (I did send you a PM telling you that).

Did you install the 1.06 patch? You'll find a link to it in the Older Versions / Compatibility section of the Chessmaster 10th Edition FAQ...

And no... it's been mentioned before (also in the Older Versions / Compatibility section of the FAQ) that Chessmaster 7000 will probably NOT work with Windows XP. After all, CM7000 was released in 1999, for Windows 95/98.

Sarcasm won't get you anywhere. So let's try this again...

Chessmaster 7000 is for Windows 95/98. If your disk says ME/XP, then it's not Chessmaster 7000.

So, what version of Chessmaster do you have?

Also, what is the error message that you're receiving? Be explicit. Just saying you got a message doesn't help at all.

Well, as the Chessmaster 10th Edition FAQ states, getting CM 7000 to run Windows XP is very unlikely... that said, the fact that it won't run on Windows Vista isn't a surprise.

If the Uninstall link doesn't work, then the only thing I can suggest is deleting the program group and icons manually, as well as the following folder:

  • C:\Program Files\Chessmaster 7000

    I hope this helps. Smile

P.S.: If you can afford Windows Vista, then you can afford $20 purchase Chessmaster 10th Edition -- or better yet, Chessmaster Grandmaster Edition. Besides, online play is no longer available for CM9000 or older.

Chessmaster Grandmaster Edition has the following improvements:

  • Improved version of TheKing.exe (Chessmaster's chess engine)
  • Automatic update feature
  • Tutorials from Josh Waitzkin's book, The Art of Learning.
  • New chess sets and wallpapers
  • New chess puzzles and chess variants
  • Improvements to online play (including correspondence chess)
  • Database of 900 famous games

Although Chessmaster Grandmaster Edition is the only version tested to work with Windows Vista, I've had no problems running either.

One more thing... if playing online is important to you, consider this: Chessmaster Grandmaster Edition and Chessmaster 10th Edition use different protocols, so you can only play online with those who have the same version you do.
