Everyone:

I just bought Chessmaster for my new laptop, and it is a DELL 9317 17" notebook with the Vista operating system. I paid about $21.00 for the download and install, but it still does not work, and I cannot find the root cause of the problem, despite being able to download and install successfully. I have the Vista operating system, which might be the problem.

I like the Chessmaster game, which I have on my desktop PC. Can someone help me with information with maybe contact information. I am new to this forum. Yes, I have read the first few posts already.

I answered my own question. Ubisoft did not create any games before Vista was in production but older Windows XP versions might work.

I have a read a couple posts of other users have issues, but then again some users have been able to run Chessmaster on Vista. It is frustrating, because I am getting no exlanation on 'why' the patch it will not install on the Vista operating system from my experience.

This is correct. The icon is called Chessmaster Challenge. It is the icon with the brown horse with the black background. It is v10. The version on my desktop is v1.0.0.118, so it is proably the same thing on Vista too. I cannot find-out the version from the Vista operating system, because I cannot open-up the program.

2) You said that the game installed without any problems. Right?
This is correct. I am at a disadvantage, because I am not as familar with the game mechanisms as most users here, but I have downloaded/installed the game with no problems for both on desktop (windows XP operating system) and also my latop (vista operating system).

3) How come you can't download the patch???
I have to restate that statemeent; I can download the patch, but it will not allow me to install on my laptop.

4) What does it say when you try to run the game?
On my laptop, I see the same annoying Microsoft Windows message:

This is just my opinion, but nothing is going to change unless I start posting something or calling someone. I am running out of options. My plan was to download/install the Chessmaster, which I did then concluded that I would have to download/install the patch, which I also did, but I cannot install the patch; whenever I try to mention a destination directory, it is always telling me that all of my files are up-to-date. Basically, I guess I have to try to find another directory, or I have to redownload/reinstall Chessmast, but I feel that this is just a plan that will execute my task.

5) Do you have 32 or 64 bit Vista?
I have a 32-bit operating system. I learned something. My laption has 960MB RAM. I only have 14.9 GB of used space on my <c:> and 127 GB of free space.

I will not be very helpful here but one important thing is that Chessmaster Challenge and Chessmaster 10th edition are 2 differents things.

Chessmaster Challenge is a very small subset of Chessmaster 10th edition. Chessmaster Challenge can be downloaded on internet while Chessmaster 10th edition needs 3 CD or 1 DVD (this 1.8 GB).

Knowing that can be useful if you try to get help. This can also explain why you cannot install the patch if you try to install the patch which is done for Chessmaster 10th edition.

Chessmaster Challenge is also sold by many different "companies" on the web. I mean you can find many different websites (just write "Chessmaster Challenge" in google) where you can download it (and buy it) with some differences (the size of the exe will be different etc.)

Moreover I am not sure that the interface etc. is excatly the same for chessmaster challenge and for Chessmaster 10th edition, so problems that you can encounter with Chessmaster Challenge can be very different from ones you can encounter with Chessmaster 10th edition.

Thank you so much for your effort. I have read multiple posts and noticed that some of the chatter that was discussed about Chessmaster was not available on the program that I possesssed. Basically, I just did not see the features on progam that I have. I am a dedicated chess player, and plan on buying that Chessmaster 10th Edition in the future (multiple licences).

The Chessmaster 10th Edition is not available in the Vista operating system. I am in the process of getting a refund on the Chessmaster Challenge from my laptop. It is going to take me 2 weeks at the most, according to the company, and I will probably take it a step further and go to the bank tomorrow.
