I tried the demo on my girlfriend's pc, (also an S3 chipset) with 2D only checked and either DX or OpenGL, but it shows the black screen mentioned above, so it's not a 3D only problem. I think its the S3 chipset being unsupported by the game.

I had similar behaviour to this after trying to copy my user from CM9000 CMX. It was fixed when I returned things back to normal. You might want to check under the .../data/Users directory. Maybe if move your user directory elsewhere, it will create a new one for you.

You can try to make the game work by checking the following requirements: - get the latest drivers - set up the screen at 800*600, 16 bit color depth - launch the Game Settings program and check OpenGL instead of DirectX, also check "Only 2D Chess sets" - install the 1.0.2. patch Hope this helps, The CM Team

Chessmaster was tested on other 8MB video cards and it works fine. Perhaps it's an S3 specific problem... We'll look into it.

Sorry to bumb such an old topic, but i was wondering if there is a fix for this problem. Im having the black screen problem om my laptop with savage videocard aswell, while i would love to play some CM10 in the garden

If you did all that and it's still not working, then I don't think it is going to.
