I'm very interested to know if there is alot of new tutorials in CM11. For me this alone would be worth the upgrade price. Josh Weitzkin's lessons are great. Also, are there any other software (ubi or otherwise) which teaches chess. I don't mean chess engines but actually walking a person through all the tricks that a beginner must learn.

thanks

Well, Chessmaster Grandmaster Edition contains some new tutorials from Josh Waitzkin based on his recent book, "The Art of Learning". Personally, I think they're very good, but I don't know if they would alone be worth upgrading for.

CM 11 does have some other new features, such as:

  • a new version of TheKing which supports dual-core processors
  • Correspondence chess
  • Puzzles and mini-games
  • Chess variants (available for online play only)

Naturally, CM 11 has several new chess sets and wallpapers as well.

Most chess software has some training feature for beginners, but most of it isn't very good (I was extremely disappointed by the lack of training materials in Fritz 10). If you're new to chess, I'd say, stick with the tutorials in Chessmaster.
