Chess doesn't make a good movie subject, but one that should be readily available in your local video store- Searching for Bobby Fischer.

If chess is really new to you, you should look for books about easy combination / tactics first. Shouldn't be too difficult to find some...

If you want to read something more advanced e.g. about strategy in chess you will often find How to reassess your Chess by Silman here in the forum as a good book mentioned.
There are also many books by Yasser Seirawan for beginners which I havent read myself completly, but what a saw on amazon.com about it looks quite promising.

And movies... if you mean lectures you should visit chessbase.com.
