You'll most likely need to upgrade, to Chessmaster 9000 or 10th edition.

Dear torbacz,
Yes, there is a way to do that. Just right-click on the program and select "properties". Then go to the compability section, and go to compabililty mode area. Check the box "Run this program in compability mode for:". Finally, scroll down to what CM6 is compatibe of.

If that doesn't work, then you'll have to locate the CM6 folder and do the steps to everything that's in it.

If all else fails, I'd suggest you buy an upgrade, but not Chessmaster 10th Edition. The later Chessmaster are just plain horrible. It got countless errors, ugly skins and avatars, and... errgh. No word could describe it.

Hope that works,
gdalpha7

P.S. Isn't it suppose to work on XP?

If the compatibility setting doesn't work, you may want to try CM8000. That's what I have and it works just fine with Windows XP Home. You may be able to find it at a computer show for next to nothing. Good luck.

I have been runnin Chessmaster 5000 just fine on WinXp, regular install, set compatibility to win 95. Just bought CM 9000 though. Miss the war room layout :^/ Couple questions:
1) Any word on a timeframe CMXI will be released?
2) Any comparisons on CMX vs other programs? TheKing engine did really well in the 2003 competition vs Shredder, but since then you can tell so much work has gone into improving Shredder and Fritz etc that they just seem to blow TheKing out of the water.

I've installed / removed CM6000 a half dozen times on my new XP maching but will gladly do it again if setting all the exe's to Win98 (or even 95) compatibility allows it run. And while I'm here, does anyone know if the 'solve for mate' functions in 6000 were carried fwd, (or even improved) in 7000, 8000, 9000, and/or 10thEd?

With baited breath...
L.

I can't answer for 7000-9000, but 10th edition has it, so the others probably do too. As for improvements, probably the only difference between them all is the engine doing the searching. However, the advice and mentor lines functions can find long mates a lot faster most of the time, and, in my experience at least, just as accurately.
