I'm trying to install the patches so I won't have to use the CD all the time. When I run patch 1.01 it says it can't install because of an unknown version. I have version 1.0.0 of Chessmaster 10th Edition. I've tried installing the UK version and get the anim.dll error.

Where can I find additional information?

There are three different version (US, UK, and French)... if you tried installing the UK version, then try installing the US version.

By the way, you'll want to install the patches in order (1.01, 1.02, and 1.03).

I feel like I must be missing something. When I go to the patch page it lists three patches, 1.01, 1.02, 1.03. It says that for the US version you should install 1-3 in order. If you have the UK version, install 2-3 only. I've tried both ways and neither one will work. Am I doing something wrong or would you have some other recommendation?

Unfortunately, there's no way of determining which version (US or UK) you have... you have to try the US patches; if they don't work, then the UK patches should work.

There are some exceptions:

1. If you installed an unofficial "No-CD crack", the patches won't work. In this case, you'll have to re-install from disk, and then install the patches.

2. There have been a few cases of an "unknown" version of Chessmaster 10th Edition that won't work with the published patches. If possible, try exchanging your copy for a new one.

If that fails, you could try calling Ubisoft Technical Support. However, you'll probably get a scripted response telling you to come to this forum.
