Hi, it would be nice to introduce a plain windows userinterface in chessmaster. It is still possible to make som fancy graphics.
regards Lars |

More documentation on the openings would be much appreciated. To divide them between defensive, offensive, more or less aimed at experienced or not players, in order of importance (some openings are just bad).

Thanks for the reply ,
I will search about the winboard engine tournament feature. Also this morning I saw a thinking line in training mode. I'm not very familiar with the interface, the possibilities are really huge. For pgn features, I would like to have the ability to copy/paste/delete any game, from (or inside) a pgn database to an other pgn database, into CM. Maybe already possible, |

Hi,
for the next Chessmaster i had a wish for the King Engine. I have createt most of the 6 Man Endgame database with the feg tool. Now it was nice to see, that the King engine could use this Databases in the search like other Chess Engines do with the Nalimov Tablebases. best regards Markus |

now i have launched an engine tournament (list, rebel, aristarch, crafty, smarthink, chessmaster) thanks to ebutajilb; a nice feature for cm11 Could be to see the thinking lines of the engines during the tournament (like in fritz8)

- Many times, it has happened to me that the piece I was moving fell into place at the wrong place because I mis-handled the mouse. It would be very nice to have a mode where you click once to take the piece and click a second time to drop it, eliminating that kind of drag & drop mistake.
ChessFalcon: this is already possible.
Go to Preferences/Board Settings/Piece Movement and set it to Two Clicks Moves instead of Drag & Drop. Hope this helps, The CM Team |

quote: Oups! Thanks, much better. Another improvement, unless I missed that one too, would be to be able to play set up game, or load saved games, online. |

I just tried out in more depth the openings section. I was rather disappointed as to how to browse through all of the massive amount of data in there. I didn`t find a way to just animate out the move without the voice commenting out and taking so much time. It should load itself quickly, and we should be able to 'next' and 'previous' each move and show final position without having to go through the whole sequence. An opening snapshot album would be very appreciated. There should also be a browse feature which allows to set up only the white`s or black`s position and show all of the possible corresponding black or white openings matching that configuration.

ok new to this board. but been reading through it a bit.
how about including a bit more info on the game. i have played chess aginst friends for years. but never with clocks or any other rules. maybe have a bit thicker manual, or a text file out lining these point. like explaining what fisher time is??? i know now but no thanks to chessmaster had to go looking on the web. I know a lot of people will be comming to chessmaster from clubs and as experinced players. but for the absolute novice there is a lot to lean that is not well explained. Also is there any way to change the defult time for ranked games. mine always defults to a 5 min game????? Aaron PS hello all |

For the next Chessmaster i would like to see...
1. A version released for PocketPC/Palm that links into chessmaster on the computer so that you can play chess anywhere and take the games back and analyse them. 2. In the current game the computer sometimes plays almost instantaneously on some personalities, if these are to mimic human players they should at least take a few seconds to play a move to add a bit more realism. 3. There should be a feature you can turn on to make the program automatically save all your games regardless. Then you could play for a while and go back to look over the evenings games and analyse them 4. The analyse whole game feature could be improved. When you analyse the game, highlight moves of interest (ie moves where you made a mistake or there were better moves available). Then provide multiple lines of play for the situation, more than one line because a lot of the time chessmaster chooses a very complicated line, allow simpler lines so weaker players can grow gradually. Give the option to the user to be able to play through the suggested lines at their own pace so they can gain benefit from it. 5. The tutorials by josh waitzkin were brilliant. More of the same maybe by other IM/GM's. Nice to listen to someone with a passion for the game who inspires, not just the souless chessmaster voice. 6. Some new tutorial/ratings exam material they are all the same as CM9 i think. 7. Plugins that will allow you to link in with other online chess games yahoo/pogo etc, i've heard rumours, do they already exist? CMX has been great so far though, not too many quibbles and lots of nice additional features. |

Could you fix the graphics so the tool bar shows up no matter what you screen resolution is set at? I'm running at 1024x796 (or something like that) and the tool bar at the top of the screen disapears. I have to 'feel around' for what I want all the time. Thanks!

Being able to play CMX personalities online, anyone agree that would be a great idea?
Being able to cancel created games, anyone agree?
Being able to tune your pc's engine to have a personality of its own that you could let loose online like Fritz, anyone agree?
Being able to access a more hlepful online helpfile, anyione agree?
To cancel created games (supposing you refer to the online mode) you can simply use the "Leave Board" command available in the Game menu.
To tune the engine and create a specific personality, search the forum. There are already several discussions on this topic. About the online helpfile - isn't this forum already a big online help ressource? You must only learn to use the search tool available and you should get the answer to all your questions... Hope this helps, The CM Team |

Great program. I hadn't upgraded since 7000.
I think the biggest area for improvement is in the database portion. I use the free program SCID for storing my own games and managing a large database of published games. I do most of my analysis outside of chessmaster because the database is so unwieldy. DATABASE 1. User games should be automatically (as an option) added to a database for that user. 2. The CM database should be able to be saved to PGN format. 3. It should be possible to have two databases open at once, to compare MyGames to the DB included in CM. 4. Position search should be more flexible (just pawn structure, etc.) 5. DB access should be faster. WINBOARD ENGINES 1. It should be possible to load multiple engines when analyzing a game. 2. When playing a tournament involving only engines, there should be an option to automatically play the next game (currently each game is started manually). In fact, in any tournament, there should be an option to continuously run games until a user's game is schedules. (With some kind of Pause Tournament option too.) RANKED PLAY 1. I'd like to see thresholds for resignation be part of the personalitites. It can be very boring spending an extra half hour (I don't like blitz chess) playing out an easily won position with the computer thinking, eating time. 2. After a ranked game, the option "Save game in CM format" should be added. It should also be possible to play back through the moves of a completed game. ACADEMY There are options for "Josh Waitzkin", "Christiansen", and "CM", how about a BACK button? --SJS |

The ability to download the new version as an upgrade for existing CM10 owners at a discounted price would be what I want. I just bought CM10 for a Christmas gift for someone for $60 which is expensive and a $10 rebate just would not make me buy a new version. A one year life expectancy for a game of this nature and price is too short and too expensive. The majority of buyers are more than likely adults and next versions would not be what I would pay another $50 for. I just hope CM10 will install properly on Christmas morning I have not had much lick with UBI soft sotware in the past.

Two things would make play against personalities much more realistic....
1. Please, Please make the computer personality expend at least a second to make a move. I am horrified to be winning a game, and have the computer down to 3 seconds of time, and he seems to be able to make 20 moves!! 2. Then playing a long game, say 60 minutes, it is not realistic for the the personality to spend 5 minutes deciding his each opening moves. It would be much more realistic if an opening book was used and applied in such a way that it only take at most a couple of minutes for the first dozen or so moves!! Thank you for a wonderful product. |

Greetings to all,
I enjoy attaching jpg. files of positions from the games I play with a friend created from CM. The problem is when copying the graphic, I also get the drop down menu in the picture. Is there a way to prevent the drop-down from being copied to the clipboard or is this a another thing that needs to be fixed in a patch or future editions? MK |

1)It would be nice when playing online if you could switch to a 'kabitzers' or 'analyse' mode after the game. Where you could click back to any position and talk about the moves with your opponent, using highlighted squares, arrows est. Similar to the teaching mode or the 'whiteboard' option in MSN Instant messanger. Each player could move the pieces and chat about the game.
2) It would also be nice if you could 'hide' the bottom tool buttons on the screen. When playing I like the board as big as possible, but the Menu button in the bottom left of the screen takes up a lot of space. Having a menu option to 'hide' these would be nice. Moving the mouse to the lower corner of the screen could make the tool buttons pop back on for a second. Thanks for a great game! |

quote: That London place was Simpson's-in-the-Strand -- still extant, incidentally; but how much chess is still played there, I'm not sure. The game was discouraged after a remodel at the top of the 20th century, but I think they were getting more receptive in the last 20 years or so. |
