That's definitely not a dead link. It's a link to the first permanent topic on this forum. I can't understand how you can read this message and not the first one in the forum ??
Well I'll be, it worked! Yesterday I downloaded and installed what I thought was the latest patch only to have the program tell me there was nothing to update. Today, following the link in the FAQ, the patch installed and I'm now connected! Woo hoo. Now I just need to limber up the old chess chops. See you guys in the lobby sometime. Cheers, Scrum (Old clarinet player too)
I'm from Hungary. Last week I bought the game, installed it, then tried to connect to the ubi.com server, but it didn't work. I got this error: "Could not log to the router! The client is incompatible with the server. (ERR: 50)"
I can't apply the 1.03 patch, I get this error: "This program cannot update the installed version of Chessmaste 10th Edition because of the following reason: C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Chessmaster 10th Edition\Anim8.dll: unknown version."

Any solutions?

With all the talk about the FAQ link in this post one would think you would have thought to read it! (That goes for you too, Martin ) You're trying to install the wrong version of the patch. That is, if you're trying to install the US patch, try the UK version, and vice versa.
I had the same issue with the Anim8.dll unknown version error. It seems I also have the UK version for some reason... Strange... but the UK patch worked for me.
I can't apply the 1.03 patch, I get this error: "This program cannot update the installed version of Chessmaste 10th Edition because of the following reason: C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Chessmaster 10th Edition\Anim8.dll: unknown version." i try with the UK patch and US also but still the same!!!
There have been a few instances of strange versions that aren't able to be updated... where did you purchase it?
Also, what version do you currently have? Select 'About Chessmaster 10th Edition' from the Help menu... it will have the version number on the bottom of the screen.
If you don't require the CD to run Chessmaster, then you have the latest version.
Click the 'Play Online' button... that will connect you to the game server. From there, you'll be able to see everyone online, and select a game or create a game.
I'm getting the same message (client is incompatible with server: ERR 50). I'm running 10th edition on Vista with 1.03 patch installed. Any suggestions?
I just logged in without any problems, so I know it's not the server...
Did you remember to install the patch as an Administrator? That could be the problem... check the 'Help About' screen; that will confirm the version you have.
You need to install the patches... you can get them from the Chessmaster 10th Edition Downloads. Make sure you install all of them in sequential order.
You'll be prompted to enter the CD Key when you go into Online Play for the first time. If you don't play online, you won't need it.
hi all,i need help. i cant log in to my ubi.com account?it says The client is incompatible with the server.i have an account but i just cant log in.i have in the last few days reformatted my harddrive back to factory settings but this would'nt matter would it,i mean ive downloaded ubi.com so it should work right? wrong!!!please help me to get logged in so i can play online, cheers
The only explanation for the message "the client is incompatible with the server" is that you haven't installed the patches... you can get them from the Chessmaster 10 Edition Downloads.
You could have saved yourself some frustration by reading the Chessmaster 10th Edition FAQ; it states this at the very top of the thread.
hooch33 first you specify which Chessmaster version you are talking about, because you are "fishing" all over the place - in Chessmaster 9000 posts, in Chessmaster 10th Edition posts, etc.
