Hello All:
This may not be news to many but I have found a way to copy positions and subsequent moves from online chess articles, etc. thus saving the time to type all the moves into CMX manually, e.g., a position for end game solution and/or analysis. What I did was to go into CMX>Play>Set Up Position, then set up the position as seen or described in an article or post, save it as a pgn file. Upon saving, CMX adds the headers and FEN. Next, open the file in Notepad, copy the move list from an article, post, etc. and paste it into the open pgn file. Save the file again. Now you can open it in CMX Training Room (File>Load)and the starting position from the article or post etc., and all the moves subsequent to that position are shown and ready for playback, analysis, etc. Some editing from the original article/post may be necessary to remove comments, footnotes, etc. since the text to be pasted must follow the PGN format. Hope I have not reinvented the wheel "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing" (Edmond Burke 1729-1797) |

Just to clarify: this method is necessary when the position given in an article, etc. is not the normal starting position for a game of chess. For example, an article can graphically show the position of chess pieces after 14 moves but does not list those 14 moves.....the list of moves from the position shown begins with 1 (for black or white). Therefore, it is necessary to use this method so that CMX knows where the pieces are before the first move from that position.
