Could you give some specific information on what is happening? What error message(s) are you receiving?

During the installation of the 1st CD, it was shut down with the message that "Install Driver module has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience". Error signature app name: idriver.exe appver: 8.1.0.293 ModName: idriver.exe offset 00060fce.
Are you looking for specific info from the lengthy technical error report that would help diagnose the problem. I called the Dell Support and they tried to install it to no success. They tried to install Jump Start Phonics which works fine, so they said the problem is due to the Chessmaster 10th Edition.

Well, it's not a Chessmaster-related error; it's an error reading the CD, which means the CD is bad... I would suggest exchanging your copy of Chessmaster for a new one.

I experienced the same installation problems using another chess club member's CDs, which were installed with no problem. Would it be because of my Verizon Security Suite or other software problem?

Well, I know that you could have problems playing online because of misconfigured anti-virus and/or firewall software...

If you have any virtual CD/DVD drive software, that would pose a problem too; due to Chessmaster's anti-piracy features.

I bought this for my daughter's chess club. It seems that I'll not be able to install the 10th edition on my computer. I found the Best Buy has a Chessmaster 9000 costing $10. I am thinking of getting that version if it can be installed on my computer. 2 questions: 1. will I have the same installation problems? 2. Will it do the same job as expected of 10th edition for the chess club? Or shall I buy the 11th edition? My 9-year old will be disappointed if I don't have the Chessmaster installed so she can complete the homework assignment for the chess club.

I am not sure what is virtual CD/DVD drive software. I know I have Kodak Easyshare and IPod. Are they virtual CD/DVD drive software? What should I look for?

Virtual CD/DVD software are programs that let you run CD/DVD-based programs without having the disk in the drive... so your iPod and Kodak Easyshare aren't the problem.

If you're having problems installing other software as well, then the problem isn't with Chessmaster, it's your computer... so I have no idea if you'll encounter problems installing Chessmaster 9000.

As to whether CM 9000 will work for your daughter's lesson, it depends on what the lesson is... if it requires online play or features unique to Chessmaster 10th Edition, then no, it won't work.

I installed the Jump Start Phonics without any problem. I'm pretty sure there is compatibility problem between my computer and the Chessmaster 10th Edition. Will you be able to suggest how I go about solving the incompatiblity problem?

First, make sure your computer meets (or exceeds) Chessmaster's minimum system requirements. They're on the box, or you can find them in the Chessmaster 10th Edition FAQ. That would be a good start.

Also, does your computer have all the latest service packs, drivers, etc.? If you're not sure, check here:
