i had this idea of a new type of chess, similar to boinc seti, it stays hidden in tray and plays over the internet with other's pc while you are working or have your pc on, and when it dosnt play, it can learn chess by itself so it will play better next time. and when your computer wins it gets points and there will be a top with computers good at chess. people at chessmaster do chess on computers for years.

Interesting idea. It sounds like a better use of resources than SETI; although I know Kirsan Ilyumzhinov would disagree with me!
Still, I don't understand why many people are so determined on having computers play other computers. I mean, it's nice if your computer can beat another computer, but seriously, where's the fun in that? It's not like you personally learned or accomplished anything... Don't get me wrong, I think computers are a wonderful resource in analyzing and practicing chess, but they're just tools, and they shouldn't become the primary focus of chess. I guess you'll just have to call me old-fashioned... |
