Interesting idea. It sounds like a better use of resources than SETI; although I know Kirsan Ilyumzhinov would disagree with me!  Still, I don't understand why many people are so determined on having computers play other computers. I mean, it's nice if your computer can beat another computer, but seriously, where's the fun in that? It's not like you personally learned or accomplished anything... Don't get me wrong, I think computers are a wonderful resource in analyzing and practicing chess, but they're just tools, and they shouldn't become the primary focus of chess. I guess you'll just have to call me old-fashioned...
