Is it possible to set up a position, say an endgame, and then play it against Chessmaster or a personality? Thanks.

You need to take a moment to get aquainted with your Chessmaster interface. From the main menu, choose "play," then choose "set up position" (the checkered button). You can use any personality or yourself.

Thanks for your response Astro. I have CM 9000. When I start the program I have choices. I'm asumming I should go to the game room. I don't see "play" on the menu. I have "Game" and then can choose set up. After I set up the board, choose a personality and move there is no response. I have also tried to "force a move" but nothing happens.
