Hi,

I got into setup game and got pieces I wanted setup. I chose black to move first. I clicked on "advice", then "think", and CMX suggested ridiculous moves. What I noticed was CM wanted to move the pawns in the wrong direction. Whites pieces needed to move down the screen, but CM was moving them up the screen. What did I do wrong?

You say White's pieces should be moving down the screen? Normally, White plays from the bottom, with the pieces going up... did you swap sides?

Anyway, I set up a simple game:

1. e4 c5
2. Nf3

I set Black to move first, with the Chessmaster personality using 10 minute time controls. Chessmaster made the move:

...e6

So everything appears to be working (for me, at least).

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, have you installed the latest patches?

It's not top or bottom, but "A" rank and "G" rank. White always starts from the "A" side. I can't count the number of times my 2nd graders' OTB game notation was all messed up because they didn't start with a white rook on A1.

thank you for the advice. I figured it out. I setup the "normal" board with black at the bottom. I think that caused the pieces to move in the opposite direction. I have it fixed now.
