Anyone experienced this? I've got a new Fujitsu-Siemens with Vista Basic installed. Each time I move the marker over a piece the game lags like crazy, it's impossible to play. Does anyone have a solution for this?
I don't know if there's a fix, but I found a workaround. Open the Windows task manager and set the process priority of "TheKing.exe" and "Game.exe" to "low" and the priority of "Chessmaster.exe" to "high". It makes the UI more responsive when you click, and when you don't do anything the engine still has all the CPU to itself for thinking.
To change the process priority in Windows 2000/XP:
- Open the Windows task manager with "Ctrl+Shift+Esc" - Click on the "Processes tab". You should see a list of processes running. - Right-click on the desired process and choose "Set Priority" then choose the desired level.
There are six different levels from "Low" to "Realtime". Don't use "Realtime" or your entire system might become unresponsive.
I don't know (and don't want to know) about Windows 98/Me, but I think those systems don't allow process priorities to be set.
Gah, nothing worked... the patch doesn't seem to want to work since i still have to insert the cd and the menus are in a weird color. The task manager tip sadly didn't work either. What a shame. Thanks for all the help though, I do appreciate it.
