Hi. Long time reader, first time poster.

I found this in a fitness forum.

A guy, 22, wants to have sex with a girl who's 16. I'm the dad of a 1 year old daughter. I am worried about her enough as it is, but I cant think of how much I'd worry about this if this was my daughter. I'm angry about this guy doing this, am I right to be angry? What would you do if your daughter was in this situation?

(to make things equal, you can read the 22 year old guys side on his blog, http://www.becomingapua.com/2007/09/06/having-sex-with-a-16-year-old/ )

Question:
Am I right to be angry?

Choices:
Yes
No
Not sure

What worries me more, is the fact that he doesn't even care about having a relationship, just wants to have sex. I've known some people about that number of years apart, and it's legal if the minor's parents give consent to the relationship, but at least the people I know actually wanted to have a relationship and love was the motive, not sex... But even with parental consent, they have been smart enough to wait until the minor turned 18 before they tried anything anyhow, just to be on the safe side, lol. I mean, the parents could hate the person later and lie and pretend like they never gave consent...

But yah, for me though, I wouldn't get involved even with parental consent. I met a girl that was very nice and she seemed very mature, but then the issue of age came up and she was 16, it was like, "oh, ok, nice meeting you, bye." lol. I mean, wow, she didn't look or act 16, but knowing how young she is, it is just too weird, I'll feel like a predator...

If you think this is wrong and want to spend time and life on it, you should turn a blind eye on the things that goes on in Africa, the middle east or even what is happening in Burma (cant get myself to call it Myanmar).

Dont be naive.
There are much bigger fish to frie than this.
But if you want to spend time on it be my guest.

By the way, when was the last time you helped people who are dieing from malnutrition, illness like AIDS or brutal regimes/ local warlords who think they own the local people?

If all you think you can do is offer a little money, heres a good place for you to actually do something then: http://www.amref.org/index_text.asp?PageID=41

Me, Im going to return to Dafur, Africa, on the 19`th of october 2007. Dont think I will see you there or anywhere else where your help is so desperately needed.

Looser.

LMAO, you're calling ME naive???

Do you even know the meaning of the word, that is exactly what you are.

Have you EVER wondered why the same people are always in trouble in the same ways? You don't think all of the large countries in the world has dumped billions of dollars trying to help these countries and they ALWAYS turn back to their old ways? Why do you think all of the big countries are simply losing interest? And you're calling me naive. Look at the whole "conflict diamond" controversy. Do you know the history of it? Basically, diamonds were found in Sierra Leone, which was basically a poor, poverty stricken town in Africa, ooh, what a big surprise. And what SHOULD have been their savior, actually made things WORSE in their country. ANYWHERE else when some big important resource, or in Leon's case, a valuable resource, is found, that country banks on it and the entire nation benefits and becomes richer than you can imagine. But no, not Sierra Leone, nor do ANY of the other countries in Africa when something valuable is found there. Do you know how much oil is in Africa? Do you see any of them forming a stable government and economic system to take advantage of the resource on their own land? NO, you get people killing each other to try to claim it for themselves, all the while rich people from around the world is sneaking in and stealing these resources right from under their noses.

I'm sorry, but every time we try to help those people in need, the resources we pour in simply get used to kill more people in their own stupid civil war. Look at Mogadishu, Somalia back in the early 90's for instance. Perfect example, we go in to try to provide humanitarian aid. Do they use the food and medicine to help themselves? No, they all start killing each other so they can have it all for themselves. These are not a sharing type of people, they don't believe in the greater good of "their" people. Their people only include their immediate family, they have no national pride. There is no helping people who don't allow other people to help them.

But I'm naive because I care about local problems. Go on, give your money, maybe if you're lucky it'll just be used for ammunition and not another AK47 for them to kill each other with...

LMAO!!! Ok, do some research about who you're talking to before you make really retarded statements that just make yourself look stupid...

It's almost like you are "predicting" the wrong numbers to last week's lottery... Good job...

And for the love of country, it's "you're" not "your."

Talking about politics on the boards is NEVER good. People will start to flame, and emotions will start to come out. Let's please get back onto topic.

Thank you

Dewayne, I also find it very disturbing. It's an adult having sex with a kid, and it shouldn't happen.

Mr.Hanky,

For better of worse this forum has a longstanding tradition of being the forum where politics get discussed among all of the forums that UBI hosts.

Dewayne2,

You might want to be careful with your thread titles. I thought this thread was just another sick porno spam post before I to risk reading it. Wink

That's what I was hoping for when I clicked on it, but unfortunately it was just a regular thread, no naked girlies... Sad

No need for insults, no matter how improperly spelled.

Hope you enjoyed your time in Darfur and did something useful while there. But why Darfur? Have you not been involved or interested in stopping the ongoing war in the Sudan that has been going on much longer than the atrocities in Darfur? Was the plight of animists and Christians irrelevant to you as they were tortured, butchered, raped or enslaved? Darfur is a nice hot topic right now, but very little tangible is actually being done. Since I've been there a few times, I've seen what an utter mess it is. Even worse, the only solution seems to be one that involves far more killing and no one is willing to do that.

Not to be cruel, but do you really think that what you did makes any more difference than my giving food and money to the homeless people I see every single day on the streets of New York? Yes, yes, yes - I know it isn't nearly as fashionable as saying that I'm stopping genocide. But working in a soup kitchen and homeless shleter is certainly a good thing to do to help people.

Now I agree that I could stand a lose a few pounds, but my uniforms still fit me quite well and I was just promoted again (still below where I was before I entered the Chaplaincy). Now I don't fight since the Geneva Conventions don't allow that, but I am certainly doing "some good" as you put it.

People believe in different things and choose to champion different causes. Very often, people are involved in more than one cause. Someone being upset over a 22 year old wanting to have sex with a minor in no way indicates that the same person upset over that isn't also involved in feeding the hungry or curing cancer. Frankly, I think an adult having sex with a child is criminal and improper. If the laws of that state have the age of consent at 16 then it is not illegal, but that doesn't mean I have to like it.

So I ask you, do you think it is okay for a 22 year old man to have sex with a 16 year old girl?
