I love hearing the parents or wives of a fallen soldier complain about the death and blame the government about losing their loved one. They signed up for it, the US Military right now is an all volunteer, no draft. You can't have the benefits of being in the military without risks. |

As sad as it is to lose a soldier, you are completely correct.

Rage,, ask them what they would do if their families were to be attacked right in their own back yard by radicals who want to exterminate them? Who would they call on to stop it? Then ask them if it would be better elsewhere instead of in the Continental US.

I hate to hear about any soldier's death. I feel sorry for their family, yes they volunteered to go to war, but regardless the family should feel upset. To some there was no reason for the operations in Iraq, but men and women still sighn up. The family has every right to greive the loss, and it's our obligation to help them. I agree that they should know their soldier willingly took up the call to arms, but that dosen't ease the pain nor help the soldiers overseas. I hope that no one uses the fallen soldiers as political amunition, but sadly they do. I hate to hear when the family of a soldier blames the death of their beloved on the war or government because that means that the they think the country was not there for them, and often we are not. They have every right to hate the war or the country they veiw killed their child, but we need to try to comfort them, and finish the mission with as few casualties as possible. I prevent deaths from scurvy by causing deaths by firearms and bleeding ears |

As of right now, IMO no it wasn't worth it. Many of those assets could have been utilized in Afghanistan in rebuilding and poppy eradication efforts. We'll never know the real answer to this question until 5 or 10 years from now. Whether Iraq eventually resembles a true nation state, looks like Lebanon during the 80's or somewhere in between will show. The Iraqis haven't seemed to take the initiative to form their own nation in a proper manner. Without them knowing where they want to be and go in the future as a nation and not local sect, city, province, etc., it won't matter what US military or Iranians or other outsiders do in the grand scheme of things. Since they'll determine what failure or success is.

You can't help but think it's been a waste. The war has gone on longer than Vietnam. It's probably gonna last longer than the world wars & the Bush administration doesn't seem to have a clue as to what they're trying to accomplish in that country besides press coverage.

You do realize that Vietnam lasted 10,000 days right? According to my caculations, that is about 27 years. Iraqi Freedom hasn't even reached 2000 days yet. I still haven't decided about my position on Iraq, but I am pro-military.
Check out this clip People like this frustrate me, sure you are entitled to your opinion but it is a volunteer military! It is a pretty funny clip but frustrating when people don't educate themselves and stick to a narrow view. Funniest part: "If only there were an organization sworn to protect that free speech" "Wouldn't that be great!" |

Its true. But I was two years off. The first American serviceman was actually killed in VietNam on September 26th, 1945.
