What OS are you running? Are you running Windows XP 32-bit, or Windows XP 64-bit? "They've got sex everywhere, every step of the way. Go to hardware forums like www.guru3d.com |

Yup same problem here. I am getting bad studdering and cant really play. This just proves that its a driver problem and not the cards since we both have the same problem. I tried both sets of drivers and both of them did the same thing.

Its the Dual Core Proc....... Anyone having issues go here: http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/TechnicalResources/...82_871_13118,00.html DL the AMD Dual Core Optimizer and you will be runnin great. There is issues with timing with the Dual Core procs and the older games. This fixes them all! Core 2 Duo and 8800 GTS, and I have the same problem. Usually it's a steady 60fps across the board, but for some reason it'll occasionally stutter real bad when viewing certain maps from various angles.
Sure wish they would have kept supporting this game, or at least made a worthy sequel. |
||||
|
Well thought that fixed it. I guess its a driver issue. |
||||
|
Intel core 2 duo E6600 and 8800 Gts. Play like 5 minutes and then stuttering like i dunno what. |
||||
|
yep same here just switched out my 7900 GT. all other games run fine, except shield. studders when theres a lot of frags go off or a lot of dudes around.
and its NOT the dual core problem. my game is set to run on only one core. ran good with the 7900 GT, but not the 8800 GTX on the same processor / setup. i think it might be something with the UT2 engine, because ut 2k4 does it too... not as bad, but still does it. Anyone wanna email nvidia about this for a possible driver fix |
||||
|
Hmm, I read on Toms Hardware that the 8800 series video cards are the next generation cards and are direct x 10 cards and will not run with any system except the new Vista? Atleast that is the impression that i got and Vista is the only system that is set up for direct x 10? Any one else heard that? Leep out: |

no.
ANWYAS nvidia JUST released new 8800 drivers Version 97.92. http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_97.92.html ("Microsoft® DirectX® 9.0c and OpenGL® 2.1 support.") nothing in the release notes says it fixes any jitters in any games, maybe next time. |

I also started to have this problem when I changed my old GeForce7800GTX to a new GeForce8800GTX
This stuttering problem with the G80 cards does not seem to have anything to do with the dual core processor as I had that already solved when I was still using the GeForce7800GTX by installing the AMD processor and dualcore optimizer drivers (I've got a AMD64 X2 4400+) and following the multicore processors power management and performance state policy behavior fix instructions from the Microsoft pages http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=896256 So there were no problems with the GeForce7800GTX but after switching to the 8800GTX the stuttering problems started. I have tryed several different driver versions and even the new 97.92 drivers seem to have no effect to this problem. I have also made a clean reinstall of WinXP but this does not have any effect to the problem either. Also running the game with only one of the processors does not help in any way. The problem seemes to be either in the RvS / Unreal2 engine code or in the Forceware drivers and with how they handle hardware Transforming and Lighting with the G80 cards as when I investigated the problem further I found that by setting UseHardwareTL to False in the ravenshield.ini the stuttering problem was not there anymore and the game ran smooth as silk. However when setting UseHardwareTL to False this results to some very ugly ground textures in the maps where there are curved terrain in them (Training for example) but otherwise everything else seemes to be visually fine and crisp. One other thing that I found to help at least a bit (if you do not want to disable the hardware transforming and lighting from the ravenshield.ini) is that if you toggle the firstperson weapon off from the games HUD menu. By doing so the game runs a bit smoother than before and with a bit less jerkiness. I've searched the web and several other forums for other GeForce8800 users ideas on how to solve this problem but have not found any clues which would help with this so unfortunately there really just does not seem to be anything else at the moment that would help us 8800 users other than to disable the HW TnL and to just live with the ugly ground textures in some of the maps. If anyone else has any other ideas on how to tackle this problem with the G80 cards (other than reinstalling the OS, the game, the dual core optimizer drivers etc. that have already been adressed here and which are NOT the cause nor the solution to the problem) please post them here This message has been edited. great post. i'll check it out. also i see if UT2k4 has this option and try it there also.
edit: fps is still shotty when theres frags and stuff. but its not noticable really. the jitters are gone. |

Good thing mate, i tried that yesterday and played RVS for 1 hour or so and there was no stuttering during that period. So thankyou mate for your fine post. Dont we think Nvidia will make a driver wich fixes it or ? |

Good to hear that this has also worked in your case and that another fellow 8800 owner is again able to enjoy RvS Yes I would figure that Nvidia will eventually fix this issue in their driver updates as there have been reports floating in the net for a while now about similar stuttering problems by other 8800 owners in other games that also use the Unreal 2 engine (UT2K4 for example). Nvidia should be aware of these problems with the new 8800 cards and the current drivers with the Unreal 2 engine based games but until they come up with a new set of drivers in which these issues have been adressed it seemes that we just need to disable the UseHardwareTL option from the games ini file for a jitter free experience. |

Nice find with the fix btw, but, Iv turned the option to false and its stopped all the jittering.. I have a huge drop in fps tho, it wasn't like that before I did this tweak.. Anyone else experiencing this?

Hell I just bought a 7300 to run RvS and thought that would do it.....DOH thought wrong.
Have changed the lines to false that needed it and still get a BAD Scope/Zoom Lag. Everything else seems ok! |
||||

ok Got it so there is no more Zoom issues BUT a whole new issue.
Smoke from Fire extinguishers and machines in Red hallway of Streets and All of Oil REfinery and anytime I get around computer rooms.....GAME CRASHES TO DESKTOP! Anyideas! |

Follow the other 8800 thread, it has some XP fix/Vista bad info.
For XP OS, newbs say "stutter" for lots of things...VSync ..it's a setting in ravenshield.ini , set it OFF .. vsync is to make "perfect visibility", screen refresh is same as game picture refresh..but, with poor gear or sticky situations, refreshes will ALWAYS drop to HALF from before..60->30->15 etc..vsync is not ok..is OK with NEw rigs and OpenGL games..there they're neccesity(spell) |
