Typically a bad day fishing is always better than a good day at work, well, today it really was a bad day fishing. After losing several lures yesterday and one today ($20 worth of lures easy), I changed to a different bait. I was fishing from a pier in a pond and cast down the length of it, around 30 feet, about 15'-20' off it. I was bouncing a plastic lizard off the bottom and got a hit. The bass took off and I set the hook (and had to set the drag real fast as it was a bit to loose). As I was reeling in the fish, it took of under the pier. As I tried to keep reeling it in, my line snapped, taking the only lizard I had like that at the time. Talk about a bummer. Around an hour after that, another fisherman showed up and using plastic worms, hooked a 3-4 pounder not far from where I hooked mine and even had a second fish chase the other one in.

One good thing came about today, one of the park rangers came down to the pier and told us a few choice places to catch fish, but they are only accessible by boat (they rent boats) as there is no bank fishing allowed (and why I lost lures, pitching back towards the banks and catching trees that overhang the water).

Yeah, WK. I hate when fish take lures. Mad

I remember one tine I had my lucky lure's on. I was out on my 16' Boston Whaler with my dad. We had been blue fishing all morning and took a break between schools to eat some breakfast. We finished our breakfast and I decided to throw a line in for s**ts. Surprisingly I got a hit! I reeled it into the boat. It was a good 25" bass! Mind you. I had my lucky lure on. I lift the fish out of the water to bring him into the boat and...*SNAP!* My line snaps and the fish gets away with my lucky lure. RRRRR. It was kinda aggravating knowing that I've had that lure for a few years. It was only a cheap lure that I bought years back, nothing special about it. I just used it all the time. I've since found a good replacement that seems to work quite well.

I took Dad fishing yesterday for Father's Day. After driving 3 hrs, we got the boat on the water. We were looking for shade as much as we were looking for bass. Well, we started with 4 dozen minnows, 2hrs and about 20 fish later we were out of bait. We were in to a bunch of 10-12" lg mouth and a ton of shell crackers. I went back to the bait shop and picked up 100 more minnows and we were tearing 'em up. Dad doesn't like throwing jigs, spinners or the likes so we were tied to a tree stump all morning. There was one point where I had a hand-size shell cracker on a rooster-tail and another on the minnow at the same time. There were a few 16-18" bass, the rest were little chits but fun none the less.

Despite being tied in the shade all day, I got sunburn pretty bad, JOY!!

You get worse sunburn on the water than you do on land. Wink

That holds true to being in the water too. My back would get really red at the beginning of the snorkeling season while I was on Oki until the tan really got going.
