Oh no! Damn, I thought I'd never have to go here again and just wait for the TS4 to come out. Well I didn't expect this...?
TimeSplitters 4 was the game I was looking forward to the most since the GTAIII came out. All left there is to hope someone in the future will make an investment and revive the TS4 project, use a good brand of the series... That things happen.
I tend to be very picky about console FPS games, especially about the controls and gameplay mechanics. Played a lot and the game that did it best for me was TS2... When you look at it, the concept is really simple, no jumps and stuff, no vehicles etc... just basic actions and killing. Dodging bullets of course. It's (the multiplayer) like a fight between two martial artists with the exact same proportions and skill level, who always know a counter to the coming attack, the counter becomes next attack etc... Now multiple the joy of battle by the number of players (of some skill of course) and you have a perfect shooter. I found the One Shot Kill option briliant, because it just changes the action from
"oh yea I got more health, weaker gun though" to more imediate type of thinking, reflex type of gameplay (bit like Burnout) where it doesn't matter how many megatons you are carrying, just if you shoot good. Dodging bullets is always cool, especially when you succeed to dodge them from more angles.
I'm not saying that jumps shouldn't be in TS4, I'm saying that to make a game that plays this smooth and balanced is always harder as it gets more complex. I was hoping that TS4 could revive this feeling with next gen graphics and enhanced abilities of creation, but perhaps Haze's sales were too small and the reputation was damaged, so the company is cut off from the investors now. I still think that FRD team is able to produce an outstanding shooters, just not that complex as Haze was trying to be. Or rather is, but didn't really hit the target of such perfection.
