I agree. My mothers friends son, who was about 8 at the time, decided to play GTA and he would always act like he was trying to kill me or run me over. Yes, it was quite awkward to watch him in his hyper activity running around in circles, but it bothered me that he was exposed to violence like that at such a young age. I have no idea what hes like now, its been a while, but hopefully hes snapped out of it and plays games like "Bratz" or "Barbie and the 12 dancing princesses" which hopefully has no violence. America actually has a supremely strange take on censorship. Violence is ok...but any kind of sexual freedom is strictly taboo... Should see the movie 'This Film is Not yet Rated'. We're basically exposed to high levels of violence from birth, and our entire ratings systems allows it.

Then the complaints of a rise in violence. I find that amusing. Its how people compare things to others.

If you like documentaries at all, I'd urge you to check that film out. It gives a very frightening look at the USA's ratings system...who they are...how they become raters etc... It's a really good flick with a ton of very very well-known people in it. Heh, and it's actually quite funny... I won't spoil it, but yeah, it's a good watch.

For a change? As in, you're getting tired of your old drugs? "ConViction is so different, you wonder what makes Ubisoft think this should even be called a sequel to the critically acclaimed and groundbreaking series." – IGN.com |

i predict within a month or two after GTA4 comes out that the newspapers will have some articles about stupid little teens who "reenacted scenes from a violent videogame"

I can't tell if you were being serious or sarcastic. lol |

Funny thing is mn21, kids are doing stupid stuff all the time. It's only when they're mimicking a video game that it garners press attention.

i dont know why everyone compared GTA as one of the most violent games if anything haze looks more violent |
||||
|
usually when someone dies, its reported and in the news, whether its local or worldwide. i dont think that game related violence attracts press, but attracts parents, who blame the gaming industry, etc |
||||
|
i personally think that GTA is the worst kind of violence in a videogame because it mimics reality. games also have no boundaries, and games like gta applaud u for violence. look at this old article http://www.gamespot.com/news/2005/02/16/news_6118699.html the kid admitted it was from the game and even killed the police, as done in game. its because of that no-limit rule in games, and how realistic it is to the world |
||||
|
There are plenty of more violent games out there, like, Manhunt, Manhunt 2, other gore games, so on...
GTA is just notorious for appealing to teens because they can understand the basic plot and because parents usually would pass it off as some innocent game thinking you play as a banker or a car salesman in some new type of Oregon Trail. |
||||
|
and also because it's semi-realistic

Yea... no. Allowing people to beat up hookers, random people on the streets, blowing up police vehicles and just generally killing without conscience can't be compared to a game that has you fighting for a reason... even though war is stupid. Killing with no just purpose, except because you can... not a very good comparison. They may both be bad. But haze is definitely the lesser of the two evils. |

Again, if kids didn't get these games in their hands, it wouldn't be a problem. Parents need to be more aware of what their kids do. They can piss and moan all they want about invasion of privacy and you being lame, but the bottom line is you're the lord and master of their tiny little world. What you say goes, and you're responsible for what they do until they're old enough to be tried as an adult
One thing i'd like to add though, remember, GTA never actually has missions that involve killing hookers (at least, not that I can remember), and if it does, it's not repeatable as she was probably a snitch of some sort, or heard somethign she shouldn't have. You're not just taking these people out for fun (unless you're just cruising through the city, not doing missions, because yes, that is fun). The same cannot be said for killing cops, but still, the game doesn't revolve around killing police officers either. You're literally talking over a hundred hours of gameplay that involves pretty much every aspect of gaming you could think of. And for anyone who really has gotten 100% in GTA, involving police in missions can be ridiculously detrimental to the success of your mission. Makes it just a pain in the ass. Morne |

yea but its sad no matter how u look at it. i just wish they eventually learn or never have kids again

Sometimes being the bad guy is a good thing though. Here's a no BS breakdown of what happens when you have a child who is catered to in every way...without an restrictions:
Paris Hilton I rest my case, Mornelithe |

lol giving your kid no restrictions is just as bad as abandoning them.
