Best online game in awhile. I think haze is making a statement on the online capablilty of the Playstation 3. Since Call of Duty 4, people thought thats what online was going to be like for all games on PS3. Haze really did well on making it easy for what the person wants to do(co-op,multiplayer). Fun levels, nice balance on the two forces. Plus the game has a great storyline that has the person not even close to knowing what will happen next. Great game 8/10. Could of had longer story and better graphics, really push the graphics to the best they can be.

The promise hand isnt overpowered at all, they can do a lot of things, but you can tell if people are playing dead by how many shots you hit them, the mines barely work unless you hide them in the perfect spot(easy to see, glowing red or yellow...). Also, most of their weapons are weak. the Mantel are more powerful and have nectar(easy to track hiding people). But they are not as good in mobility as the promise hand.

quote: Incidentally they review The Orange Box in the same issue and it scores the same as Haze. Cool Now, the Japanese may not be held as experts in the FPS genre, but that's still a fantastic score for Haze.
Are you kidding me? 1) NO, this game does NOT compare to Half-life. Even half-life 1 w/a horrible graphix card. 2) Can you even read Japanese? Because that would be more impressive than this game 3) Do you really think comparing a game that you delayed for over a year with a game that was essentially finished, apart from story line, over 3 years ago is impressive? Half-life has remained, mostly, unchanged graphically & game-play -wise for about 4 or so years. Its an awsome game, don't get me wrong, but comparing a game that you delayed for "compatibility" and "improvements" to a game that is essentially old-school technology, that's just pathetic.

Half-life 2 didn't interest me much. If the orange box didn't contain portal it would have been a waste of money.

Pros:....The guns were the only things that looked decent Cons: Graphics, Gamplay, Stability, Multiplayer,
There is so much room for improvment, hopefully it will happen.

What was wrong with the gameplay?

The freezing, the predictable AI, and fighting with a bunch of jarheads and latinos while the Main character put out a very dull personality. The story was good though

It doesn't freeze up hardly at all with me. In what ways are the AI predictable?

One way that is the same for EVERY mantel trooper is that once you shoot them a few times, unless you get a headshot, they will crouch down until they are killed. I didn't notice it much until I got closer to the end when you fight as a promise hand guy. Another is that most of the time, they will walk straight at you, there is no tactical thought to it at all, the game is really simple even on hard. The only times I was killed was either by a rocket or a sniper. I don't know, maybe I'm just asking too much from this game since the hype was misleading.

Try the super hard mode. The bots are quite a challenge then. I've only played the Boa region on hard so far though.

I think the reception for this game is pretty clear cut, regardless of our own arguably biased opinion, and it's something echoed via Free Radical's own site. The only Press Coverage they have on their site (http://www.frd.co.uk/haze/pressCoverage.php) is from PSM Italy who apparently referred to the game as "Unmissable."
I wrote a letter to Free Radical's mailbox, very polite, asking for the team's opinion on the game's reception, heated and divided fanbase and so on. Nothing as of yet but hopefully it'll be there in time... Then again considering that there hasn't been any letter responses or Blog updates on there since March, who knows...
Being both a PS3 and 360 owner I'm starting to see parallels between this game and it's reception to another under-appreciated, but also decidely average, shooter Shadowrun...

I don't know about you guys but that seems like a pretty supreme technical achievement. yet it isn't even touched on by reviewers, probably because they didn't even notice...
Because it's not true. Haze's loading screens are hidden under unskippable cutscenes where the player has minimal control [often reduced to moving your head a few degrees], it's hardly seamless when the player routinely has nothing to do. The worst example is the helicopter ride before the final mission; you're just left to sit there staring at a helicopter's empty transport compartment until the next area is done loading.
