Please don't refer to them as PS2 graphics, honestly, they're on the lowest side of next gen, definitely not as outdated as PS2. |

Got it day after release as price dropped £10.
1st impression is a well excuted game. Game play is good and smooth operation. Vehicles ae a bit naff would have liked full on driving i.e. motorstorm control. So far I only had about an hour on it but so far not disappointed. Hoping for some WoW factor as I get into the gamme. |

now i don't know if this was mentioned but and i hate to do this but,ign.com gave haze 4.5/10
ign UK gave it 6.5/10 and ign AU gave it 6.2/10 Reasons for 4.5/10 -crappy graphics -bland story -bad sound affects -poor AI -texture tears -animation porblems -useless merit system -repetetive diaolgue (not cut scences, in game) Overall they gave 4.5/10 me i more go with UK review the US review was harsh just harsh but i like haze still |
||||
|
-crappy graphics - Not crappy but not awesome
-bland story - It isn't bland -bad sound affects - The sound effects sound fine to me. -poor AI - Slightly, yes but they still shoot the opposite team. Good enough, no? -texture tears - Don't quite know what is meant by this. -animation porblems - I see nothing wrong with them. I find some funny. -useless merit system - No comment -repetetive diaolgue - So? Doesn't bother me. |

Have to agree, sadly. Haze didn't quite deliver on the expectations of the current hardware generation. Mip levels and normals errors jumped out at me before I could leave the aircraft carrier. Not to mention that there were rocks and trees floating around in the scene among other pieces of geometry. In all honesty I was too disappointed to finish the Mantel portion of the game. I should be focusing on school work anyway so maybe this is for the better ________________________________ |

Well what a disapointment.
So where do I start? I think everyone has mentioned the massively underwhelming graphics and overall poor presentation, so I won't dwell on that one, although I have to say I'm extremely disapointed by the standard of the quality control that this game has gone through. Some of the level design is poor at best, with no clear indication of what has to be achieved a trial and error approach is necessary. The lighting in some of the levels is so dark you cannot see where your going, the AI so thick it's an insult, and many small things like burrying grenades in the metal floor of a ship just stupid. So the game deserves a poor score. We move on. No doubt it will just about break even, although the TV advert downloadable from the Playstation shop is conspicous by its abscence from our TV screens. The thing that really disapoints me is Free Radicals. I have enjoyed just about every single one of their previous shooters, most notably the Timesplitters series and Goldeneye, so how can they produce something with such glaring failures? It's not just poor graphics that have let this game down, it's poor dialog, poor acting, poor AI, poor level design, poor online options, poor music, poor plot and the list goes on. What really struck me is the sparsness of the enemy in all of the levels. I can't remember coming up against more than about 8 or so at anyone time. I'm sorry, but is'nt this supposed to be a war zone? The thing about producing something is that it represents the company and it's a reflection of that companys quality. If money was no object would you buy a Mercedes or a Lada? Bang and Olufsen stereo or an Alba one? Why? Because Mercedes and Bang and Olufsen have a reputation for producing very high quality products.The same could be said for game producers nowdays. Your average gamer has evolved,does his internet research, and understands the history of the publisher and developer. For all the blood and sweat that Free Radicals have put into this, I hope they are disapointed. Because the final product is a Lada. So, take it on the chin boys, learn from your mistakes and start producing the quality of games that you used to be renowned for. Lets face it, if Timeplitters and your secret Lucas Arts title don't cut the mustard, you may be looking for alternative employment, because Free Radicals won't survive. First thing I'd do is scrap that game engine. |

You clearly have no understanding on how to rate a game, except rant on with your huge ass post. Lets start off where you went wrong: 1. the ad not being abscent from the tv I just saw it 1hr ago here in Australia. 2. Poor dialogue and poor acting. I think the game had pretty decent acting, Shanes voice fits in the game really well because ironically it doesnt't fit which gives you a sense that he doesn't belong in this world hence his turnover to the rebels and is unsure about his own ideals. But given that if Haze had the best actors in it, no one would be able to make bad lines better. 3.Poor Online Options. what so seamless 4 player co-op isn't enough? 4.Poor Music. What are you on about, if you actual sat there and listened to it you would understand that its pretty good but not the greatest of course. Why not check out 1up.com and read the interview and maybe you'll appreciate it. Or did you read IGN review and you turned off the sound cause it said so, seriously. 5.Your rant about costs. Do you know how much it costs to make games? Let alone hiring the 60piece orchestra to play your so called "poor music"? Also how can you compare B&O etc to Free Radical, for one B&O don't need to fight against competition because they make timeless pieces audio equipment, Free Radical has to produce against FPS competitors and against time (ie release games in the right time frame). 6. Scrap the engine? You clearly have no idea what a game engine is do you? A game engine does not reflect what a game actually looks like, take Bioshock for example great game but uses Unreal 2 engine. Or take GTAIV it uses the engine much boasted in SW: Force unleashed. There so much more in what I can say, but I just want to put forward that Haze certainly did not live up to what it supposedly was "hyped" up to be, however it certainly shines in many areas and I would like to think that Haze will go down as very underated game, which is pity because many will miss out on it having being put-off by snobbish reviewers and immature gamers. |

well im so tired of bad reviews, i thought I should write one. first off, haze is simply the best shooter I ever played. Ive been playing game since the atari days, I play pretty much everything from shooters, strategy, racing to rpgs. so why is haze so awesome you ask? haze simply bring games to what games are. games are suppose to be fun. the gameplay is perfect, the controls are perfect, playing rebel or as mantel are both satisfying. the multiplayer cant be more balance. neither rebels or mantel wins more, it all depends how you use theirs strenght. the health system make the greatest firefights you can imagine. no ranking system make the game balance for everyone. multiplayer maps are really well designed, lots of sniping spots too. now, graphics. awesome. the art is great, all the guns, vehicules, characters are all well designed. the overall presentation of the game is great, awesome soundtrack. I used to play cod4 a lot and let me tell you, its not the same beast at all. haze is way better. depending what you like of course. In cod4, you get into a game with people at level 50+ with all the best weapons, all the best perks so, as for me it makes the game awfully unbalanced. as for haze, everyone is equal. When playing haze, I really felt like playing a free rad game, It played a lot like all the timesplitters. I give credit to free rad to create a brand new ip. brand new engine, very first game for this gen of console, develloping on a brand new complex system like the ps3 is not easy.
haze is my new shooter of choice, along with warhawk and resistance. hopefully free rad will update the game frequently with new maps, new game modes and maybe new weapons, who knows? and for those who didnt like the graphics, well get used to it, timesplitters 4 is going to use the same engine, as I guess the lucasart projet.(probably battlefront 3). so now, my score out of 10. I give haze a whopping 9.5. good work free rad and dont let the bad reviews bring you down. haze is a great game. My psn is DARZERO, add me and send invitations. |

Well, **darzero0** is obviously a UBI rep, or something similar...
PS - TO THOSE WHO ARE RANTING - Don't complain about the SIZE of someone's post, then post a book to explain why you shouldn't post so much. PS - AGAIN TO THOSE WHO ARE RANTING - RIGHT ON!!! This game blows and the complete lack of response in these forums goes right along with it. You guys should give up and get real jobs. Games are not your thing. Unless you back this up with a serious come back, I consider you failures |

I pretty much made an account here to chime in on this "HAZE" fiasco.
Despite overwhelmingly bad reviews, I picked HAZE up. First, I'll say this much: HAZE isn't a very good game. It has pretty big problems, and they aren't tough to spot: it's a bit glitchy, the framerate is rough, the voice acting comes alongside laughable delivery, some of the levels are boring (or, strangely fragmented) -- this, and yet, there's still more to say. Regardless, I don't really care. I'm not trading in this game, because I value what it tried (and perhaps even failed to do) more than I do the game itself. HAZE is a broken game, but its greatest asset has nothing to do with its gameplay. I loved what Free Radical attempted to do with their storytelling. For those willing to dig a little deeper (and, really, it's not too hard -- the story itself is somewhat amateur in its presentation), you'll find a very modern, relevent cautionary tale that tries its best to be a little War on Terror, a bit Heinlein, and a dash of Bradbury. It's all done poorly, sure, but the effort made here to tell a disturbing story filled with eerily familiar elements stands out as something both ambitious and daring. I love it for that. And, so, yes, HAZE is a pretty terrible game. But it's also a pretty remarkable attempt at being politically invested. I hope that HAZE doesn't come and go like this. I hope they try to remake it some day, or that -- if there is a HAZE 2 - the potential here doesn't lie wasted. No doubt, HAZE is a 5 or 6 out of 10 game; anybody who thinks otherwise is either too invested with Free Radical to believe otherwise, or has been playing 5 or 6 out of 10 games their entire lives. But to say that it's a throwaway because of technical problems, I think, wouldn't be fair to some of the narrative here. It's amateur, but in some ways, its that straightforwardness that makes it somewhat impactful. I know this entire post may seem bizarrely abstract, but again, I'm not out to ruin the story with a rundown of what I *think* HAZE means. I hope that people discover HAZE for what it is, and I hope that there's enough support here to ensure that this isn't the last time we see a HAZE game |

Ok... Ive been reading reviews, and i felt like i had to rant something about Haze,
Ive been playing Haze since day 1, Finished it on Hard and Vhard, the game has srs glitches in some parts, theres a lot of tearing in the game, the trucks and cars in the game look like taken from an N64 game, AI SUCKS, ur comrades are majorly stupid. Online isnt better, I wished they'd implemented a CoD4 like online, not a u can create a ranked match, most of the matches have lags, due to the host not having enuff speed for all. Ive experienced 5 freezes in the game, 4 of them online. The game is SRSLY BROKEN, i loved the story and the gameplay but everything else sucks major ass... Im srsly disappointed with free radical, i was expecting SUCH a great game, and we just got a gamecube game ported to PS3. My haze will go on Ebay soon PSN: necronzero |

This is my Opinion on this game. The single player was interesting and was ok. However they seemed to shortcut the graphics and replace it with... uhh... hahaha to be honest i cant say. The game play was average with some twists. which by the way, again in my opinion, makes game play un balanced.
Let me talk about a couple of the levels on multi-player and give some thought. First off the level carrier. I enjoy the thought of being on a mobil level although we must be riding on really flat land, no up hills or anything i mean thats pretty sweet. Anyway i've gotta say that there are way to many freaking sniping positions on that level. you wanna know how to get 50 kills in 10 min you climb a ladder to find your self with the "Troopers" sniper rifle. from there you sit and keep watch for any one else attempting the same thing. and take a little bread and snipe ppl on the ground. THIS LEVEL IS PROMOTING CAMPING. WHAT GAME PROMOTES CAMPING. WHAT WERE THEY THINKING WHEN THEY DID THIS MAP? REALLY, THREE FREAKING SNIPING SPOTS I MEAN HOLY ****. WHAT ABOUT THE GUYS ON THE GROUND?!! THERE JUST SCREWED! *takes a breath and continues* Swamp is completly unique i mean no one has done a level where you can barely see 10 ft in front of you. o wait i know why no one did that, its cause no one is dumb enough to... Game types: Team Death match is a good game type, So is death match although it usually turns into a team death match since your either a trooper or rebel. But as for Assault, that game type was an awsome idea with the exception of one thing... the troopers have better weapons, are harder to kill, have more stable aiming, can run faster... so to summarize that into one sentence Troopers win every round. the rebels wind up getting nowhere and start killing eachother and if you need a vehicle to get to where your going you might as well as walk since no one really waits for their teammates to pack into their vehicle. like on shanty town. Cant blame them though i mean there is a time limit and who the hell wants to wait for the slow spawning teammates to collect their gear and get the seat they want on the vehicle... The trooper start with a stronger assault weapon, which doesn't balance out with the rebels larger magazine... then the secondary weapon. ok who do you think is going to win a guy with a nectar knife that doesn't go more then 10 ft. or the guy with the pistol that kills in two hits and is essentially long range. When you have a nectar overdose due to the knife, it isn't as bad in comparison to the troopers pistol. baisically i would rather have the pistol then the nectar knife in almost any occasion. Even close range... The troopers have everything they need to keep the rebels at bay for hours. Assault is a pointless game type as long as the troopers are as strong as they are. -Sean- |

@sean
The game sucks, it keeps signing me out of PSN... I decided to give Gayze a second try... and after 2 hours of Multiplayer... I placed the game on Ebay, there's HORRENDOUS LAG, FREEZING, HORRIBLE MUSIC, TERRIBLE MAPS (Good for campers as u say.) there are maps like swamp where there's good to be a mantel (swamp) and maps where's good to be a rebel, like shanty town. Overall, Haze is a 3/10. WILL NEVER BUY A FREE RADICAL GAME AGAIN. |

lol and you clearly have no idea either mate. please dont spout off a complete load of **** to try and look clever. Bioshock uses the Unreal 3 engine not the Unreal 2 engine. (please get your facts right before putting somebody else down) GTAIV doesnt use the same engine as SW:Force unleashed in any way shape or form. What you MAY be cackhandedly referring to is 'Euphoria', an offshoot of Natural Motion's cutting edge animation system to deal realistic with Situational animations taking into account current external factors influencing a skeleton. (e.g physics, perhaps managed by other externally licensed programs eg HAVOK) but it doesnt use the same 'engine' at all. 'Euphoria' is licensed out by natural motion to any company who wants to pay for it. Its a separate thing to the engine. And if the engine of a game (as is usually the case) also handles the textures, mesh data, animations and rendering procedures (perhaps cross platform interfaces to provide portable code between direct x rendering (say for pc) or seperate code for ps3 rendering etc etc) then the engine VERY MUCH has an influence on' what a game actually looks like'. yeah it doesnt define the assets, but it determines what can be done (lighting, texture decompression, anti-aliasing etc etc) please.. get a clue, then open you mouth. Serves you right for nastily trying to make somebody look stupid for their well entitled opinion. |

it's a grower!
i, like everyone else, when i played through Haze's single player campaign was disappointed: - to short - poor dialogue - graphics on occasions were underwhelming but then i discovered multiplayer! brilliant! The assault mode i actually find more enjoyable than playing COD4. It feels like Timesplitters did and to me that's perfect! So it's not the game we were hoping for but the multiplayer alone makes the game worth the purchase! And in all fairness - 4 player co-op online kind of compensates for the all the single players short comings single player - 6/10 multiplayer - 9/10 |

Its now Wednesday. I posted more than one response/question this last weekend, and hangovers & vacations aside, if you guys put your work into this game like you put your quality of customer response into this forum, ITS NO BIG SUPRISE THAT IT SUCKS.
Thanks for nothing. I'm glad I didn't waste the $5 on reserving this game only to be sadly disappointed. |
||||

Its all subjective anyway, all that matters is if you personally enjoyed the game. I finished it, It didnt take long. However I did not have all that good of a time.(when I rent something I feel I have to finish it, weird I know) I believe it was IGN that gave it a 4.5, well, to me thats about right. The shooting mechanics were okay, but its a shooter they are supposed to work properly. No matter what configuration I did for the vehicles they still kind of sucked they just didnt feel right so I walked most of the campaign. I didnt bother with multiplayer, this game was like trying to finish a really bad book so you could finally put it down and never think about it again. I'm bumbed out. I guess for me at least its all about resistance 2 and killzone 2, until then I'll be on my 360 waiting for Gears 2!....well, I might go back and play the unlocked uber hard campaign on resistance 1.
