Appreciate it but I don't have a wheel mouse... & the 'C' button only has to be pressed once to stay in the crouched positioin which I stay in all the time in that room. I hadn't noticed any chains as you mention but I'll certainly look for them as that could very well be what's happening, & I'll also try holding the 'C' button down while moving forward at the platform just in case.

I did read in a PS2 hints & tricks that I should press & hold the 'X' button while I'm tapping forward to get up on it quietly but I don't know what the 'X' button equivalent is on my PC & that's why I figured I'm just not doing everything I should be even though I'm doing all I know to do.

I was recently playing Splinter Cell: Double Agent Co-op story. During the prison riot level, my brother found a white baby seal in a vent, (the vent you human ladder into and find a keycard in an office below.).
The seal was behind a metal grate. To open it he used the gas torch found in the beginning of the level.
When he talked to the seal, it sayed something like " I cant remember my name, I dont know why I am here, Can you help me? "
Then in my PDA info from 3rd Echilon said that there are seals located in every jail mission.
I, of course, became obsuredely confused and turned to the internet for spiritual guidance. Yet, I found nothing about the seals anywhere. So, please if you know anything. Let me know. I will continue to play and find more.

I am on the second floor of the embassy, how do I get out of the room with a mop bucket in front of one door and the other with a lock jammed.

Go into the closet area with the mop in it and turn to your right. See the holes in the wall over there? What you need to do is go over to that wall and to the "back to the wall" manouver while standing (press "Q" on a PC- don't know what button on a console). This will allow you to move along in the gap between the walls there. Move to your left as far as you can. Release and turn around. Jump to the pipe and slide down. You will need to do the move one more time.

Umm, what level are you on?

If it's the first level "Dili, Timor", the second check point (not save point, they are different) is after you chat with Shetland and get past the 3 guards downstairs?

I'm not sure of that, but after Shetland, move out the door across from the window you entered and quietly move left down the well lit hall (there is a guard at the window to your right but you can ignore him). At the end of the hall you will find a staircase leading down to an area with 3 guards. If you are quiet enough, simply follow the first guard VERY slowly when you reach the area with the glass on the floor and the first overturned desk/table. Use the 'back to the wall' move to avoid detection and move to the end of it, then release and continue following the first guard. At a table near the wall across the way, pick up a bottle, move to the wall, 'arm' it and throw it to the left of the guards conversing near the fire. When they look away, move forward around the next corner to a set of double doors and head outside.

Once outside Lambert will tell you to hide in the light because there is a sniper with NVG's. So as soon as a spotlight gets near you, move into it and stay in it all the way underneath the guard. There is a pipe on the wall to the right that will lead you to the contact.

having read back the last dozen pages i don't feel to clever, however. i'm new to this sort of game and i got it for wii. my problem is i can't even do anything at the start of the game. i can climb on the boxes and thats it.

I am still kinda new to SC, I am on the oil rig following poitr and he goes thru a door with his guards. I cant find a way to open the door or go around, any advice?

The room that the mercenary entered is sealed, as you stated. Go out via the door you came in and continue to the left. You will hit a save point.

Roll or move carefully to the left side to avoid the fire. When you do, the glass on the window above will shatter. Jump up on the machine to your right and look up for a pipe.

Jump up to the pipe and pull your legs up to enter the building. When you get in, you will see the technician and one more guy run off, leaving another to destroy the equipment in the room. Pull out your pistol, line up a head shot and take it.

Drop down and head to the left side of the room to find two medkits on a shelf. On the other side is ammo for your pistol, on top of a filing cabinet.

Leave and head up the stairs to see a helicopter and some soldiers get destroyed by an incoming missile.
