I am able to defuse the first two bombs just fine and usually the third; but after the third I can never make it to the door. I have read all the walkthroughs but they haven't helped much. Any tips on how not to die?
There are several ways to get through this area, either with KO's if you don't care about stealth or full stealth without touching any of the guards.

Who's killing you? The guard coming out the door or guys behind you? Or both? lol
You can try placing a wall mine by the door and one somewhere on the path leading to the 3rd bomb before defusing it. You also have plenty of time to jump onto the main catwalk, run & get in front of the door, and have your gun drawn, aimed at the door before the guy comes through it. As soon as the door opens, unload into him.
That of course is the violent way.

The guards are armored so sticky shockers can be helpful in dealing with them- you do not need to be as accurate. That is a very hard scene- I think one of the hardest in the series (I haven't played DA).
