No, they aren't the hackers. They don't get hacked because they don't have a group of angry ex-members who want to destroy the forum because they were "unfairly" banned 5 YEARS AGO!
Be careful making assumptions about things you know little about. The forums are being backed up every day or something, but during the last wipe-out, the topics were deleted a few at a time over a long period of time. In order to restore everything that was lost, you would have to use a backup from several days back or something. You would then loose all newer posts and topics, not only in RZ, but on the entire Ubisoft-forum, because Eve is **** that way.

They hacked a former moderator's account to delete topics. A non-member, or a regular member for that sake, wouldn't be able to delete a topic. There's logs over actions taken by mods, but they weren't checked, apparently. I think they check them more often now. Or at least I hope they do.
