I appreciate the good info here:

Now what I'm wondering is: what's the difference between the original Myst and Masterpiece Edition?
Is MME worth playing if you've already played the original? Aside from RealMyst being expensive/difficult to find, would you bother owning both MME and RealMyst?

And why, if RealMyst is superior, would they have bundled MME in the 10th Anniv Collection?

Thanks, helpers.

The MME uses 32bit graphics for animation and has 24bit sound effects.

Now realMYST is EXPENSIVE. I have a hard time finding it for less than $60! Which is real sad because few people will buy it now. Crying

Also, MME has a built-in hint system, but that's pretty useless if you've already played Myst. I don't own the original Myst or realMYST, just MME, but I probably wouldn't bother buying MME if you own Myst. RealMYST, on the other hand...hopefully, I receive an Apple store gift card for the holidays and can buy realMYST with it. Despite the price, it looks pretty cool, and the demo was great fun to play (the Stoneship age).

And RealMyst has the extra Rime Age. If I remember correctly, it's a prelude to Riven.

Surprised no one mentioned the main difference... MME is pre-rendered graphics at 640 x 480 resolution, i.e. a "slide show." RealMyst is real time 3D graphics, the prototype of the later engine that was used to produce Uru.

You're all awesome. Thanks for the great info.
If I ever find RealMyst guess I'll have to get it.

Do the post-Riven games seem to work better or worse with any particular OS? I've got Win 98SE which is what I played Riven on - many moons ago.
