Greetings. I am not new to Myst, but have been out of the loop for many years. I first played Myst on Sega(I think it was) and then moved on to get the PC version. I was in a game store the other day and saw Revelations and it got me going again.

Could someone be so kind as to catch me up. I have Myst, Riven and Exile (have yet to play Riven and Exile).
But what is the proper order in playing through Myst. Is Uru a completely seperate story line? I would like to try again and go through the entire series.

Just an opinion here, but is the RealMyst better and a definite must buy?

I look forward to getting to know you... you will surely get to know me. I love Myst.

Ravenn,

Order of production is Myst, Riven, RealMyst, Myst Masterpiece Edition, Myst III: Exile, Uru, Myst IV: Revelation.

Riven is the real masterpiece. Highly recommend you play that next.

MME is a fancied-up Myst which will run with the latest versions of QT (greater than 3.0), which the original Myst will not.

RealMyst is a 3D realtime version of the original Myst, with another Age (Rime) added.

Uru was originally made to be an online 3D realtime multiplayer adventure game, but now is only on CD-ROM. The latest version is Uru: Complete Chronicles, which contains the original Uru: Ages Beyond Myst, Uru: To D'ni, and Uru: Path of the Shell. This is a very large-scale game not in the storyline of Atrus and his family. Instead you are introduced to D'ni by way of an in-game restoration of the ancient city and its links to other Ages.

Myst IV: Revelation follows Myst III: Exile by about 10 years (my guess). I'm just now playing it, and where Yeesha was a baby in Exile, she is a cute 10-year old (I think) in Revelation. (In Uru, she is ephemeral but can be spotted occasionally as an adult.)

Anyplace you can get riven? Its the one game of the series i havent touched. The only reason i didnt get it was because up until it was released i was renting Myst from the library and was only 10 years old i believe. Needless to say i didnt get too far and got discouraged. Smile

Will the game cooperate with Windows XP home well?

You may have to use the Windows XP Compatibility mode for Win 98 if you buy the original CD package. As for the 10th Anniversary combo on DVD, I don't know.

Hello,

I am new to this forum but not new to Myst.

Here are my system specs:

3.0 GHz Pentium 4
512 MB DDR SDRAM
Windows XP Home
ATI RADEON 128 MB X300
Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS sound card.
DVD burner

I recently bought the 10th Anniversary DVD collection consisting of Myst Masterpiece Edition, Riven and Myst III Exile.

MME seems to run fine on my system without using compatibility mode. That is, it ran fine until getting both the red and blue pages from the Channelwood, Selenetic and Stoneship ages and giving them to the brothers. When I returned from the Mechanical Age with Achenar's fourth blue page to get the fireplace pattern, the game displayed a black page and crashed me to the desktop. This also happened with Sirrus' final red page.

I uninstalled and then reinstalled MME, and played it in Windows 95 Compatibility mode with 256 colors and a screen resolution of 640 x 480. I went to the Mechanical Age again, thinking that the crashing problem was with that particular age, and was able to retrieve and return the red page. I then saved the game. Later when I tried to restore the game and continue, the game froze. rebooting back to the desktop, I uninstalled the game. I am now considering running it in Win 98 compatibility mode to see if that will fix things. I will keep you posted.

Hi,

Updating and correcting my original post.

When I played MME in Win95 compatibility mode, I was in Stoneship Age, not Mechanical; and the freeze--including music--occured when I saved my game. The same freeze occured when I started to play it in Win98 compatibility mode and saved the game after hearing Atrus' message behind the recessed door in the dock. I haven't played Riven or Myst III: Exile yet.
